Aquinas defeated Crandon, 73-42, in a Division 4 state semifinal.

The Blugolds, unfortunately, won't be able to add themselves to the short list of teams to win three consecutive state titles after the tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Aquinas would have met Melrose-Mindoro in the state championship game for a third consecutive season.

Seniors Lexi Donarski, an Iowa State signee, and Taylor Theusch, a Minnesota State signee, each finished with 23 points for the Blugolds.

Donarski added five rebounds, nine assists, seven steals and two blocks.

Theusch went 7-for-11 from behind the arc, setting a new state tournament record with the seven 3-pointers. The previous mark of six was held by five players.

Senior Tabitha Renkas led Crandon with 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

In what turned out to be the final game of the 2020 WIAA Girls Basketball State Tournament, Melrose-Mindoro and Mishicot had a very exciting finish.

Melrose-Mindoro outscored Mishicot 7-5 in overtime to earn the 57-55 win.

The Mustangs were led by senior Calette Lockington, a Viterbo University signee, who finished with 22 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win.

Fellow seniors Mesa Byom and Emily Herzberg, who are each headed to NCAA Division I South Dakota State, tallied 17 and 12 points, respectively.

Byom added eight rebounds, three steals and six blocks.

Mishicot was led by junior Kylie Schmidt, a Purdue Northwest commit, who finished with 24 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and five steals. She also went 12-for-14 from the free throw line.

Fellow junior Desiree Kleiman, a Minnesota State commit, added 11 points in the loss for the Indians.

Melrose-Mindoro finishes the season with a 26-1 record, but won't get another shot at Aquinas due to the coronavirus pandemic which caused the WIAA to cancel the state tournament following the Thursday games.
