Beaver Dam's Maty Wilke has given a verbal commitment to play for coach Jonathan Tsipis and the Wisconsin Badgers.

The 5-foot-10 guard is a skilled playmaker that can score at all three levels, possesses a high basketball IQ, has good court vision, and excels on the defensive side of the ball.

Wilke, the top-ranked player in the class of 2021 by WisSports.net, chose Wisconsin over a host of Division I offers.

Her other finalists included Minnesota, Marquette, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State and Utah.

Wilke averaged 16.7 points, 8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game for coach Tim Chase and the Golden Beavers, which finished the year with a 23-3 record and reached the Division 2 state tournament.

Beaver Dam was in search of its fourth consecutive state title, a feat that has not been accomplished in girls' basketball state history, before COVID-19 forced the WIAA to cancel the remainder of the winter sports season after the first day of the WIAA girls' basketball state tournament.

Wilke shot over 45 percent from the floor, connected on over 50 three-pointers while shooting over 36 percent from behind the arc, and made 81 percent of her free throws as a junior.

She is a two-time WBCA all-state selection and earned honorable mention all-state as a freshman.

Maty will enter her senior year with 1,087 career points.

She received her first NCAA Division I from University of North Dakota prior to her eighth-grade year and by the time she was a sophomore that list had grown exponentially. She had offers from schools in the Big Ten, Big 12 and Big East, amongst others.

Wilke has led Beaver Dam to a 75-6 record in her three years, which includes the aforementioned two state titles. The Golden Beavers' only in-state loss in Wilke's three years was against Aquinas (two-time defending Division 4 state champion), they had won 87 consecutive in-state games prior to the loss.

Beaver Dam will compete for another state title in 2020-21 with the return of many key players, led by Wilke and fellow to-be-seniors Natalie Jens (D2 Minnesota State Moorhead commit) and Paige Hodgson (D1 Northern Kentucky commit).

The Golden Beavers will also welcome in freshman Gabby Wilke, Maty's younger sister, who is expected to make an immediate impact.

The Wilke sisters, along with older brother Sam, grew up learning the game from parents Matt and Ally Wilke. Matt played collegiately at University of North Dakota and Ally serves as an assistant coach for coach Chase and the Golden Beavers.
