Prep Props - Week 7

Prep Props is our weekly look at the best individual statistical performances in the state, with the leaders in rushing yards, passing yards, and receiving yards. Prep Props is published every Monday morning.

Week 7 Rushing Leaders

New Holstein picked up a game with Oostburg late in the week, as both teams replaced canceled contests. The Huskies of New Holstein led just 21-14 at halftime, but broke things open in the second half, reeling off 23 straight points to score a 44-21 victory. Michael Volz carried the ball 24 times for 281 yards, averaging 11.7 yards per carry. However, surprisingly, he did not find the end zone for head coach Matt Rupp. His 281 yards without a score is one of, if not the highest totals without a touchdown we have seen in many years.

Week 7 Passing Leaders

Kaukauna's jaunt around the state continued, as this time the Galloping Ghosts journeyed to the northern Milwaukee suburbs to take on Germantown. The showdown between ranked teams was a thriller. Kaukauna led 10-7 at halftime, but both teams put up multiple scores in the third quarter, though Germantown led 28-20 into the fourth. With under four minutes remaining, Gannon Demler found Logan Fitzhugh for a 27-yard touchdown pass and then connected with Cody Gaber for the game-tying two-point conversion. The game would go into overtime, where Kaukauna won on a Hank Hofmann touchdown run and stopped Germantown's subsequent attempt for a 35-28 win. Demler finished with a state-high 313 passing yards, completing 20-of-32 attempts with three scores.

Week 7 Receiving Leaders

Cumberland capped off an unbeaten regular season with a hard-fought 18-14 win over a very good Durand team on Friday. Cumberland opened the scoring in the first quarter when Maddux Allen found Jack Martens for an 89-yard touchdown. Martens would haul in another touchdown a short time later as the Beavers built an 18-0 lead they would not relinquish. Martens caught 15 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
