WBCA announces Division 5 Girls Basketball All-State Team

The 2021 WBCA Division 5 all-state is highlighted by four-time selection Bailey Butler of Black Hawk. 

Butler led Black Hawk to a 21-1 record and the program's fourth consecutive state tournament appearance. The Warriors entered the state tournament with a 75-game winning streak before falling to Three Lakes in a state semifinal. Butler, a 5-foot-7 point guard, averaged state bests in points (28.3) and assists (7.9) per game and was third in assists (6.2) per game. She also tallied 7.8 rebounds per contest for coach Mike Flanagan and the Warriors. Butler, a UW-Green Bay signee, was named 2021 Miss Basketball by the WBCA on Saturday. 

Jorey Buwalda led Randolph (21-4) to a Division 4 sectional appearance. The Rockets fell to eventual D4 state champion Mishicot in a sectional final. The 6-foot sophomore tallied 16.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest for coach Chad Kaufman and the Rockets. 

Ziy Conner, an honorable mention selection last season, led Independence (17-6) to a sectional appearance. The Indees lost to eventual D5 state champion Assumption in a sectional semifinal. Conner, a 6-foot forward, finished third in the state in scoring (25.7) and led the state in rebounding (16.3) per game. She also tallied 3.7 steals per game for coach John Zilla and the Indees. 

Brianna Dahl led Albany to a 19-3 record and sectional final appearance. The 5-foot-8 guard averaged 16.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 4.3 steals per game for coach Derik Doescher and the Comets, which only lost to Black Hawk this season. 

Emma Gruen led Royall to a 19-4 record and a regional final appearance. She tallied 18.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4.1 steals per game for coach Andrew Dahlen and the Panthers. 

Makenna Guden, an honorable mention pick last season, led Edgar (13-10) to a Division 4 sectional appearance, falling to state qualifier Fall Creek. The 5-foot-7 UW-Superior commit averaged 19.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game for coach Tom McCarty and the Wildcats. 

Marnie Kahl helped lead Prairie Farm (19-3) advance to sectional play before falling to McDonell Central in a sectional final. The 5-foot-9 sophomore averaged 15.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.7 steals per contest for coach Dean Kahl and the Panthers. 

Sydney Lurvey led Three Lakes (20-6) to the program's first-ever trip to a state championship game. The Bluejays fell to Assumption in the D5 title game. Lurvey, a 5-foot-7 guard, averaged 15 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.6 steals per game for coach and father George Lurvey. Sydney also connected on 69 three-pointers. 

Kaylee Marty helped Black Hawk (21-1) advance to the state tournament for the fourth consecutive season. She also played a key role in the Warriors' 75-game winning streak that was snapped in a state semifinal against Three Lakes. Marty, a 5-foot-5 guard, tallied 15 points, 2.9 assists and 3.0 steals per contest for coach Flanagan and the Warriors. 

Ainara Sainz de Rozas led Assumption (16-8) to the Division 5 state title. The Royals defeated Three Lakes in the championship game. Sainz de Rozas, a 5-foot-5 guard, averaged 13.5 points, 1.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game for coach Ryan Klein and the Royals.
