Week 1 WisSports.net Spring Football Coaches Poll

There will be no playoffs for the alternate spring football teams, which means there are no divisional placements. In an effort to continue to recognize the outstanding teams and players while placing and evaluating teams in somewhat like-sized groupings, we will be using Large Schools (1000+ enrollment), Medium Schools (999-400), and Small Schools (399 or under) designations.

Large Schools

We have a change at the top of the Large Schools Coaches Poll, as Fond du Lac's dominance in the early going has allowed the Cardinals to narrowly edge ahead of Kimberly for the number one position, knocking the Papermakers to second. More changes await in the top five, as Bay Port's 20-13 loss to De Pere not only ended the Pirates' 38-game conference winning streak, but dropped them from third to sixth, as De Pere leaps into the top five at number five. Unbeatens Racine Horlick and La Crosse Central make their debuts in the rankings at number nine and ten, respectively, with Middleton and Superior dropping out after losses.

Medium Schools

Notre Dame won a thriller against Kewaunee and retains its top spot in the Medium Schools group of the WSN Spring Football Coaches Poll. The top five remains the same, featuring Greendale, Lodi, Menasha, and G-E-T rounding out the group. Stoughton, coming off an impressive win over Monona Grove, and Whitnall make big jumps this week, as the Vikings go from eighth to sixth and Whitnall is also up two spots to seventh. Columbus remains tenth this week but has some company, as fellow unbeaten Milwaukee Lutheran is now tied for the final spot in the poll.

Small Schools

Omro is again atop the Small Schools rankings, as Flyway Conference teams now make up four of the top six. Saint Mary's Springs remains third, Lomira is up to fourth, and Mayville comes in at number six this week. Arcadia's loss to G-E-T slides the Raiders three spots to number eight, while Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg's second loss this season caused the Knights to tumble out of the poll. Royall is the beneficiary, as the Panthers are ranked tenth this week's Small Schools Coaches Poll.

8-Player

The top five of the WSN 8-Player Football Coaches Poll contains the same teams, with just a slight shuffling in a couple spots. Wisconsin Heights continues to lead the way in the rankings after a blowout win over Wonewoc/Weston last week. Oakfield is second once again coming off a one-score win against Gibraltar. Undefeated Kickapoo/La Farge moves up one spot to third, just ahead of Sturgeon Bay, who is 2-1 after topping Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Oneida/Providence. Chequamegon remains fifth this week. There are a couple big games on the schedule this week featuring ranked teams, including Wisconsin Heights at Kickapoo/La Farge on Friday and Oakfield hosting Chequamegon on Saturday.
