Week 1 WisSports.net Football Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year.

Division 1

Muskego ran its winning streak to 38 games with a season-opening victory against Wisconsin Rapids, and the Warriors debut at the top spot in the WSN Coaches Poll. Franklin's thrilling win over Appleton North has the Sabers second, while Appleton North is seventh this week, the highest of any team that lost in Week 1 in any division. Bay Port started the fall season with a win over Middleton as the Pirates look to put a tough spring year behind them, and the Pirates are ninth.

Division 2

Waunakee begins the 2021 season as the top-ranked team in Division 2, and the Warriors are followed by Homestead, who began the year with a nice win over Germantown. Brookfield East, DeForest, and Pulaski round out the top five. Menomonie and new head coach Mike Sinz are seventh, while Tosa West's impressive win over West De Pere has the Trojans eighth in a strong division.

Division 3

It was close, but Whitefish Bay edged out Menasha for the top spot in the WisSports.net Division 3 Coaches Poll. Baraboo rallied for an improbably win over Onalaska in the final minute and get rewarded with the third spot in the rankings. Union Grove looked very good in a win over Racine Lutheran and are tenth this week.

Division 4

Not surprisingly, Catholic Memorial was a unanimous number team in the Division 4 Coaches Poll, as the Crusaders are heavy favorites in the division. Ellsworth, who went unbeaten last fall, is second. Lodi lost star running back Lucas Heyroth to a broken collarbone in the season opener but the Blue Devils are third in the poll, followed by Lake Mills and Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian.

Division 5

Lake Country Lutheran put a running clock on Saint Mary's Springs in the first game of the season and the Lightning are a heavy favorite in the Week 1 Coaches Poll. Amherst is second, while a strong group of teams follows in the rankings, including third-ranked Cumberland, who finished as the top-ranked D4 team in last year's revised divisional placements.

Division 6

Regis could very well end up in Division 7, but for now we have them in the Division 6 Coaches Poll. The Ramblers went down to Kenosha and beat a talented Bradford team, and are number one in D6 to begin the year. Iola-Scandinavia was second, but the rest of the teams in Division 6 were all over the place in the coaches rankings, making things a bit jumbled.

Division 7

Edgar begins the 2021 season where they ended 2020, on top of the smallest-school ranking. The Wildcats began the year with a 35-0 shutout of D3 school Lakeland. Traditional powers Bangor and Black Hawk/Warren (IL) are right behind in the poll. Keep an eye on Hurley, who gets forgotten by many people in far northern Wisconsin, but the Northstars are very good once again and ranked seventh to begin the year.

8-Player

The 8-player season begins this week, as the group plays one fewer regular season game than the 11-player squads. Gilman begins the season atop the Coaches Poll, followed in the top five by Newman Catholic, Belmont, Oakfield, and Luck.
