RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week: September 6-12

Below are the RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of September 6 through 12. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees: September 6-12

Mickenzi Benter, Fox Valley Lutheran girls volleyball: Benter filled up the stat sheet as she led the Foxes to a 5-0 record and first place finish at the Appleton West Invite this past Saturday. The senior setter recorded 53 assists, 22 aces, 16 digs and eight kills throughout the tournament, dominating the opposition. Earlier in the week, Benter had 17 assists and seven aces as Fox Valley Lutheran swept Little Chute 3-0.

Molly Johanes, Laconia girls volleyball: Laconia was dominant, going a perfect 5-0 last Saturday en route winning the Dodgeland Tournament. Johanes was on top of her game leading the Spartans to their first place finish. The senior setter had a team high 49 assists while adding 39 digs, 16 kills and 10 blocks throughout the day. Johanes also helped lead the Spartans to wins over Markesan and Omro earlier in the week.

Manny Putz, Onalaska boys cross country: The Onalaska boys cross country team competed at Luther College (IL) Invitational on Saturday where 27 teams from three different states competed. Putz, just a freshman came out on top of the entire field. With a time of 16 minutes and 9.96 seconds, Putz took home the individual title while also fueling Onalaska to a team win at the invite. The Hilltoppers had a team score of 38, which blew away the second place finisher.

Cash Raethke, Kenosha Tremper football: Tremper was down 13 with 3:50 left in the game when Raethke took the field to lead an incredible comeback. With 2:02 left, he connected on a 32 yard pass to pull the Trojans within 6. Tremper proceeded to recover the onside kick and the senior quarterback led the team down the field, throwing a 28 yard touchdown strike with 1:13 left to complete the 42-41 comeback win. Raethke finished 16 of 26 for 250 yards and four scores.

Aidan Van Epern, Kaukauna boys volleyball: Kaukauna dropped their first match of the season last weekend, but still came out on top at the Fox Valley Association Tournament. Van Epern had a team high 30 kills as the Galloping Ghosts went 4-1 and proved their standing with the FVA. Earlier in the week, Van Epern recorded ten kills, seven digs, an ace and a block in a 3-0 sweep of Appleton West.
