Corey Smith of Catholic Memorial has been selected as the Week 6 Football Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. His big day helped the Crusaders dominate previously undefeated Wauwatosa West. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 6. A total of 7,422 votes were cast, as Smith's 3,097 were enough to edge out second place Chase Matthias of Two Rivers, who tallied 2,450 votes.

Wauwatosa West entered Friday's Kwik Trip Game of the Week showdown with Catholic Memorial with a vaunted running game that averaged more than 500 yards and 67 points. However, it was the Crusaders rushing attack that grabbed the headlines in this game. Much of the damage was done by sophomore sensation Corey Smith, who opened the scoring with a five-yard touchdown run before a 48-yard score later in the first quarter. In the second quarter, he juked a waiting defender in the hole and raced untouched for a 60-yard touchdown. He'd add a 63-yard scoring scamper in the third as Catholic Memorial scored an impressive 35-8 win. Smith finished with 201 yards and four touchdowns on just 13 carries.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named WisSports.net Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 7 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
