Week 7 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Darlington Redbirds

Darlington took control of the SWAL race with a 53-33 win over Cuba City last week that was like an old-school Darlington game. Three different players went for more than 100 rushing yards while quarterback Braden Davis added 81 yards on the ground as the Redbirds amassed 469 yards and six touchdowns on 70 carries. Breylin Goebel led the way with 172 yards and three scores, Brady Horne had 111 yards and three touchdowns, and Easton Evenstad chipped in with 105 yards on the ground.

Franklin Sabers

Division 1 top-ranked Franklin pulled away from sixth-ranked Oak Creek in a huge rivalry game to score a 34-14 victory in the Kwik Trip Game of the Week. Not surprisingly, Badger quarterback Myles Burkett was outstanding once again, completing 15-of-21 passes for 270 yards and two scores, adding a rushing touchdown as well. Tanner Rivard scored a pair of rushing scores, while Reese Osgood hauled in five passes for 114 yards with two touchdowns. The Sabers now have the inside track on yet another Southeast Conference title.

Luther Knights

Bangor's 44-game conference winning streak in the Scenic Bluffs came to an end on Friday as Luther scored a 20-13 upset. Bangor would get on the board first though Luther led 13-12 heading into the fourth quarter. Bangor took the lead once again with 2:40 remaining, but Luther had an answer, with Tanner Bass scoring his second rushing touchdown of the game with 1:10 remaining for what proved to be the game-winner. Luther quarterback Dillon Yang ran for a team-high 118 yards and threw for 95 with a touchdown in the win.

Middleton Cardinals

Middleton shutout rival Verona in the Battle for Highway M behind big rushing performances from Elijah Gray and Bryce Falk. Falk got things started with a 10-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter, and things continued strong for the Cardinals the rest of the way in a 30-0 victory. Gray finished with 142 yards and a score while Falk added 116 yards and two touchdowns. The Middleton defense limited Verona to just 24 rushing yards in the game and picked off Wildcats quarterback Mason Fink twice.

Reedsburg Beavers

In the state's most-played rivalry, this one has to rank up there as biggest upsets in the series, as the Reedsburg Beavers downed the Baraboo Thunderbirds 21-20. Baraboo entered at 5-1 and ranked in the top five of Division 3. Reedsburg had just one victory coming in. However, Reedsburg twice picked off Baraboo quarterback Luna Larson, playing for the first time in several games coming off an injury, including a game-sealing pick by sophomore defensive back Mark Othmer in the red zone as the Thunderbirds were driving in the closing minutes. Kevin Green threw two touchdowns to Bryant Yanke and Griffen Elder had 99 yards with a touchdown on the ground as Reedsburg's playoff hopes got a much-needed jolt. Amazingly, after 134 meetings between these teams, the all-time series is now tied at 64-64-6.
