Week 9 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Bangor Cardinals

Bangor may have seen its lengthy conference winning streak come to an end earlier this year, but the Cardinals had a chance to keep its league title streak going in Week 9 against Cashton. Bangor led 14-13 at halftime and added a fourth quarter field goal to win 17-13. Mathieu Oesterle scored a pair of first half touchdowns and carried the load for the Cardinals with 34 rush attempts for 153 yards. Ashton Michek was efficient through the air, completing four-of-six passes for 62 yards.

Campbellsport Cougars

Campbellsport claimed a share of the Flyway Conference title with an 18-13 victory over Mayville on Friday night. Mitchell McCarty threw a pair of first quarter touchdown passes to stake the Cougars to a lead they would never relinquish. McCarty finished six-of-12 for 172 yards and those two scoring throws. Cole Kaehne added a short rushing touchdown in the second quarter to give the team some breathing room.

Sun Prairie Cardinals

It was a second straight close game for Sun Prairie after a season largely featuring blowout wins, and this one might have been a little too close for head coach Brian Kaminski. Verona led at halftime 21-20 and the lead changed hands a couple times in the fourth quarter before it ended tied at 35 at the end of regulation. Trevor Schulz booted a 44-yard field goal in overtime that proved to be the game-winner as Sun Prairie held on for a 38-35 victory. Jerry Kaminski completed 29-of-47 passes for 310 yards and a touchdown in the win, while Cortez LeGrant ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns as the Cardinals completed an unbeaten regular season.

Turtle Lake Lakers

Turtle Lake had to win to guarantee itself a WIAA playoff berth, and the Lakers took care of business in a 46-14 win over Elmwood/Plum City. Toby Kahl completed seven-of-13 passes for 61 yards, but four of those throws went for touchdowns, including three scores to Joel Humphrey. Christian Torgerson ran for 210 yards and a touchdown, while Blake Thill added 101 yards and two touchdowns.

Wisconsin Dells Chiefs

Wisconsin Dells had already wrapped up at least a share of the South Central Conference title, but with a 40-32 win over Mauston on Friday the Chiefs secured their first outright league title in 35 years. It was nip-and-tuck all game, with Mauston taking a 32-27 lead on a blocked punt return early in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs remained calm, and Jacob Rockwell went in for a 20-yard touchdown a few plays later while Braden Buss hit Will Michalsky for a touchdown two minutes later to provide the final margin of victory. Rockwell finished with 135 yards and two scores on the ground, while Buss completed eight-of-15 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns.
