RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees: January 10-16

Andrew Jicha, Oregon boys hockey: Jicha is one of the top point scorers in boys hockey in the state of Wisconsin and continued that trend last week in a pair of victories. In a high scoring, 9-7 win over the Monroe Co-op, Jicha netted six of his own goals and assisted on two others. The sophomore forward followed that up by scoring another four goals in a 6-0 win over Monona Grove. Jicha was extremely efficient in those games as all scored on all ten of his shot on goal attempts.

Danilo Jovanovich, Whitnall boys basketball: Jovanovich has been the leading catalyst for a very good Whitnall basketball team this season, as the Falcons are 11-1 thus far. Last week, the Division 1 prospect began by scoring 28 points and hauling down 11 rebounds in a 97-60 win over Milwaukee Lutheran. Jovanovich followed that up with 31 points in a 75-53 win over Martin Luther. On the season Jovanovich is averaging 29.1 points per game.

Teagan Mallegni, McFarland girls basketball: Mallegni leads the state in scoring with 29.8 points per game and this past week, she far outscored that average in McFarland's two games. In a 79-51 win over East Troy, Mallegni scored 62 points while adding ten rebounds, six steals and two blocks. Her 62 points are two shy of the state record for points in a single game. The sensational sophomore wasn't done there, as she scored 51 points and added nine rebounds and five steals in an 80-44 win over Whitewater. On the season, Mallegni has three of the top four single game scoring totals.

Dustin McDonald, Bangor boys basketball: Bangor has won five straight and is 10-2 on the season after putting together a 3-0 week last week. McDonald has been a huge reason for the Cardinal's success. He began the week with 14 points in an 81-36 win over Wonewoc-Center and adding another 16 points in a 56-51 win over Royall. Bangor then took on a tough Aquinas squad at the Midwest Players Classic in La Crosse. McDonald scored a game high 22 points as the Cardinals won a 55-54 overtime thriller.

Allie Ziebell, Neenah girls basketball: Neenah came into the week looking to make a statement and move up in the WSN Coaches Poll, as the Rockets were ranked eighth in Division 1. Ziebell helped them make that statement, first in an 81-52 win over Fond du Lac. She scored 29 points and added six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Neenah then faced off with second ranked Appleton East who they lost by 21 to on December 21. Ziebell scored a game high 37 points while adding 12 rebounds, eight assists and four steals as the Rockets got a bit of revenge in their 92-74 victory.
