Hometown Ticketing Athlete of the Week Nominees: May 16-22
Charlie Erlandson, Madison Memorial boys golf: Erlandson finished off the regular season at the top of the Big Eight Conference this past week. The junior golfer shot an even par, 72, to earn the medalist honors at the Big Eight Conference Championship at Evansville Golf Course. Erlandson's first place finished helped Madison Memorial claim the team title.
Landon Hagenow, Kettle Moraine Lutheran baseball: Hagenow was a hard out from the plate as Kettle Moraine Lutheran recorded four wins this past week. However, he began the week with a dominant five inning no hitter in an 11-0 win over Waupun. Hagenow struck out eight and walked two while going two for two from the plate with three RBIs. Over the next three wins over Waupun, Mayville and Hartford, the freshman shortstop went seven for ten from the plate. He drove in four runs, scored five runs and stole three bases throughout the four games.
Ashton Michek, Bangor baseball: Michek has been dominant on the mound this season for the Bangor Cardinals. Last week was proof. In a 22-0 win over Brookwood, the senior hurler pitched a five-inning no hitter. He struck out 14 batters while reaching base three times from the plate. Playing at the Weston Triangular, Michek threw his second no-hitter of the week in a 10-0 five inning win over Richland Center. Michek struck out 14 of the 15 batters he faced, walking the last one, only to pick him off at first. He now has four no-hitters on the season. In the two games at the triangular, Michek also went five for seven with four RBIs from the plate.
Ellie Peterson, Northwestern softball: Peterson won four games from the mound this past week and did it in dominant fashion. First, she struck out six and gave up four runs, two earned, in a five inning, 17-4 win over Ashland. She followed it up with a complete game 11-1 win over Cumberland in which she struck out 12 and gave up an unearned run on one hit. Peterson then pitched two complete games in a double header with Chetek-Weyerhaueser. In the 18-0 five inning shutout in game one, she struck out 12 batters and allowed one hit. Peterson finished the week and night with 15 strikeouts over seven innings in the 6-0 game 2 win. Not only was she dominant on the mound, but she was an equal force at the plate. She went 9 for 15 with six RBIs, six runs scored and a home run over the four games.
Brooklyn Sandvig, Chippewa Falls girls track and field: Sandvig had one of the best days in track history in the state this past week at the Big Rivers Conference Championships. She set four school and Big Rivers Conference records. All of Sandvig's results also landed at least in the top 11 of state history marks. She won the long jump at 19 feet, 5.5 inches, which is the eleventh longest in state history and the longest distance this spring. She won the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes in times of 11.63 and 23.97 seconds respectively. Both times are the fastest of the spring and rank seventh in state history. Sandvig also won the 400 meter race in 54.59 seconds which ranks fifth all time in state history and also was the fastest of the spring throughout the state. She was named the Big Rivers Championships MVP. Overall Sandvig broke four school and conference records, set top marks in the state in each competition, and all four results were at least top 11 in state history.
