Hometown Ticketing Athlete of the Week: May 23-29

Below are the Hometown Ticketing Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of May 16-22. Voting is open until Friday at 4 pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

Hometown Ticketing Athlete of the Week Nominees: May 23-29

Will Hemauer, Marquette boys golf: Hemauer shot the best regional score in the state this past week, earning top medalist honors at the Wauwatosa East/West regional. The senior golfer shot a 65 or seven under par at the Brown Deer Park Golf Course. Hemauer finished eight strokes ahead of teammate Sebastian Kasun, who finished second. Marquette took home the team title as well.

Stephen Munson, North Crawford boys track and field: Munson was electric as he took home a trio of wins and a second place finish at the Division 3 Mondovi sectional this past week. The senior won the 100 mater and 200 meter dashes in 11.13 and 22.86 seconds respectively. He also won the long jump with a distance of 21-00.50 and came in second in the triple jump with a distance of 43-00.00. Munson will compete in all four events at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships this upcoming weekend at UW-La Crosse.

Anna Szepieniec, DeForest girls track and field: Szepieniec, like Munson, won a trio of events in her sectional track meet this past week at the Division 1 Baraboo sectional, while also coming in second on a relay team. The junior runner won the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles in 14.56 and 44.99 seconds respectively. She also won the triple jump with a distance of 46-07.50. Szepieniec took part in the 4x400 meter relay as well, with the relay team coming in second place. Szepieniec will take part in all four events this upcoming weekend at the WIAA State Championship Meet.

Makayla Wirkus, Edgar softball: Wirkus was dominant in all facets of the game this past week as Edgar captured a regional title. First in an 18-0, three-inning win over Bowler/Gresham in the regional semifinals, Wirkus pitched a perfect three innings. She struck out eight of nine batters faced while adding two hits and four RBIs from the plate. The sophomore hurler then pitched a complete game shutout in a 7-0 victory over Three Lakes/Phelps in the regional finals. She struck out 14 batters and allowed just one hit. Wirkus also went one for three from the plate with a walk and a stolen base.

Haley Zembo, Superior softball: Zembo was lights out on the mound as Superior won a pair of regional games and captured the regional championship. First in a 6-0 shutout of Wausau East, the junior pitcher struck out 13 batters and allowed one hit and four walks over seven innings. Zembo then pitched another complete game shutout in a 2-0 win over New Richmond in the regional finals. She again struck out 13 batters, and allowed just one hit and three walks.
