Week 2 WisSports.net Football Coaches Poll

Week 1 WisSports.net Football Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year.

Division 1

While a number of top teams in Division 1 have been impressive, Mukwonago has solidified its spot atop the Week 2 poll with a 55-45 shootout victory over Sun Prairie East last week, as Wynn Stang once again led the state in rushing, going for 470 yards, the second most in state history. Kimberly is second, with Muskego narrowly sliding ahead of Bay Port for third. Arrowhead is in to the top five after an impressive victory against Homestead last week. Fond du Lac drops from sixth to ninth after going down to Franklin. Oak Creek drops out after a loss to Muskego, with Hudson joining the poll at number ten.

Division 2

No surprise at the top, as Wauankee remains the top-ranked team in the WisSports.net Division 2 Coaches Poll. However, despite losing a shootout to D1 top-ranked Mukwonago last week, Sun Prairie East retains the second position in this week's rankings. Part of that may be to carnage elsewhere in the poll, which saw five of the top eight teams lose. Homestead (#3), Brookfield East (#4), Waukesha West (#7), and Germantown (#8) joined Sun Prairie East with losses. Of those, only Homestead (now ninth) stays in the poll with Sun Prairie East. New teams this week include Pulaski (now 4th), Slinger (8th), and West De Pere (#10).

Division 3

Number one Menasha lost to Neenah. Number two and defending champion Pewaukee was shutout by Brookfield Central. Where would that leave the Division 3 poll? Monroe ascends to the top this week, with Rice Lake second and Onalaska third. Pewaukee dips to fourth and Menasha fifth. Elsewhere in the rankings, Mount Horeb/Barneveld and Grafton fall out following losses, allowing Port Washington and Plymouth to enter the poll.

Division 4

Catholic Memorial continues to dominate the Division 4 rankings as a unanimous number one. After former number two Ellsworth fell to New Richmond, the Panthers dropped to seventh this week. Columbus moves up one spot to number two, followed by Freedom, Edgewood, and big mover Lake Mills. There were a few other shakeups towards the bottom of the poll, but no new teams come in this week.

Division 5

While Aquinas retains the number one position in the Division 5 rankings, Mayville, the team defeated by the Blugolds in the title game last year, has closed the vote gap. The only Division 5 team in the rankings to lose last week was Marshall, who drops out of the poll.

Division 6

Saint Mary's Springs solidified its spot atop the Division 6 poll with a close win over Darlington on Saturday. Speaking of Darlington, they slid only one spot from fourth to fifth. Auburndale is up three spots from tenth to seventh.

Division 7

It was an extremely tight vote at the top of Division 7, but Regis edges out Edgar by a razor thin margin to hold on to the top spot. The rest of the top five remains the same, with Black Hawk/Warren (IL) at third after an impressive shutout victory over Marshall. Defending champion Reedsville continues to impress and moves up from eighth to sixth. Randolph and Pepin/Alma move into the rankings as Lourdes Academy and Hilbert drop out.

8-Player

The preseason rankings of 8-player football held up after the first week of games, with the top five exactly the same. Newman Catholic leads the way, with Saint Mary Catholic/Valley Christian second. Belmont lost to Saint Mary Catholic/Valley Christian in Week 1, and the Braves drop out of the rankings this week. De Soto, new to the 8-player realm, makes a big move from unranked to sixth.
