Week 5 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Berlin Indians

Berlin scored a wild 26-24 win over Plymouth to remain undefeated in the East Central Conference on Friday. Trailing 17-10 at halftime, the Indians rallied to take a 20-17 lead in the fourth, only to see Plymouth score again to go ahead. On the final play of the game, after time was put back on the clock, Frank Kujawa hit Aaron Bartol for a 15-yard touchdown to give the Indians the wild victory. Wyatt Hamersma finished with 202 rushing yards to lead a ground attack that racked up 369 yards. The Berlin defense limited Plymouth to just 253 total yards.

Independence/Gilmanton

Independence/Gilmanton ended a 17-game overall and 12-game conference losing streak on Friday as the co-op team defeated Eleva-Strum 19-12. After Eleva-Strum scored in the final 20 seconds of the first half to pull within 13-12, Independence/Gilmanton senior Ben Pyka returned the second half kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown, providing the final points of the game as the defense closed things out. The big special teams play helped the team overcome an offensive performance that posted just 158 total yards.

Johnson Creek Bluejays

Johnson Creek knocked off previously unbeaten Randolph in a key Trailways Conference game on Friday. In a back-and-forth affair, Johnson Creek scored on a two-yard Dylan Bredlow keeper with 3:44 left in the game, and Bredlow converted the ensuring two-point run to provide the final 29-28 margin. Bredlow finished with 81 rushing yards and two scores, while Silas Hartz led the team with 21 carries for 148 yards and two touchdowns.

Sturgeon Bay Clippers

Sturgeon Bay dropped to 8-player football from 2019 to 2021, but the Clippers have made a triumphant return to 11-player this season, moving to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in Packerland Conference play after a 40-14 victory against Peshtigo on Friday. Junior quarterback Danny Lodl completed 15-of-21 passes for 360 yards in the win, with five touchdowns and an interception.

University School Wildcats

University School moved into the top ten of the Coaches Poll last week and solidified its spot there with a 28-27 victory over perennial league title contender Lake Country Lutheran. Vidal Colon threw an 85-yard touchdown to open the scoring in the first quarter, added a fumble return score in the second quarter, and ran for two scores in the game, plus a two-point conversion. Colon had 195 total yards of offense in the game. With the win, USM remains tied for the top spot in the Metro Classic with Martin Luther and Racine St. Catherine's.
