Hometown Ticketing Athlete of the Week Nominees: September 19-25

Sydney Hoeft, Port Washington

Port Washington went 7-0 this past week, including a 5-0 day and first place finish at its own tournament over the weekend. Hoeft set the tone from her setter position all day on Saturday. The senior tallied 89 assists, 21 digs, seven aces and two kills as Port Washington won ten sets and lost just one. Tuesday, Hoeft had an incredible 48 assists along with 12 digs, two kills, two aces and a block in a 3-1 win over Slinger. The Pirates also downed North Shore foe Homestead 3-0 last week as Hoeft had 22 assists, six digs, five aces and a kill.

Mya Nicholson, Janesville Craig

Nicholson burst onto the scene as a sophomore last year and won Big Eight Conference Championship, the first in Janesville Craig girls golf history. This year, the junior looked to repeat and did just that. Nicholson shot a three over par at the Evansville Golf Course to take medalist honors. Her 75 overall was five strokes better than the second place finisher.

AJ Powell, Appleton North

Powell was head and shoulders above the competition this past week at the Fox Valley Conference Championship. The senior golfer shot a one under par at the Chaska Golf Course in Greenville to earn medalist honors. Powell shot a 71, which was a staggering 14 strokes better than the second place finisher.

Nick Russ, Winnebago Lutheran

Russ has been lights out at the goalkeeper position for Winnebago Lutheran this season, and even more so recently. The junior goalie recorded a pair of shutouts last week beginning with a 4-0 win over St. Lawrence Seminary. He had five saves. Russ then had another three saves as the Vikings knocked off Campbellsport 8-0. Over the past six matches, Russ has allowed just one goal and had 31 saves.

Charlie Vanden Burgt, Little Chute

Little Chute squared off with Fox Valley Lutheran in last week's Kwik Trip and Wisconsin Dairy, Game of the Week on WisSports.net. Vanden Burgt was almost perfect at the quarterback position as the Mustangs blew out their North Eastern Conference rival 33-7. The junior signal caller went 10 of 15 for 278 yards and five touchdowns. He had a near perfect quarterback rating of 149.3.
