Athlete of the Week Nominees: March 27 - April 2

Austin Anderson, Deerfield

Deerfield competed in four games this past week down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina going 3-1 overall. Anderson began the year off hot from both the plate and mound for the Demons. To begin the week, the junior went one of three with a two-run home run in a 3-1 win over West Geauga. He then went three for five in an 8-4 win over Sidwell Friends. Despite a 13-5 loss to Summit Country Day, Anderson went two of three from the plate. In the final game of the week, Anderson took the mound and was perfect in an 8-0 win over Beachwood. He struck out nine batters en route to pitching a perfect game. For the week, Austin batted .500 with three RBIs, six runs scored, and two walks.

Cora Erickson, Cedar Grove-Belgium

Mother Nature always plays a pivotal role in the early portion of the spring sports season in Wisconsin. That limited Cedar Grove-Belgium to just one match during the opening week. Erickson shined on the pitch in that match. The sophomore forward netted four goals in a 9-1 win over Manitowoc Lincoln. Erickson added two assists in the win, accounting for six of the nine goals scored by the Rockets.

Devin Patrick, Palmyra-Eagle

Palmyra-Eagle secured an 11-0 shutout win over Argyle behind the arm and bat of Patrick this past week. The sophomore hurler took the mound for the Panthers and struck out eleven batters along the way. He allowed just one walk and one hit through five innings. From the plate, Patrick went two for two with two RBIs, two walks and two runs scored.

Sarah Schroeder, Cashton

Schroeder was exceptional this past week for the Cashton softball team, earning a pair of wins on the mound in dominating fashion. First in an 18-1 win over La Farge, the sophomore pitcher struck out 16 batters over six innings, only just one run on two hits. She followed that up with another complete game in an 8-2 win over Riverdale. Schroeder struck out ten more batters and gave up two runs, one earned, on just two hits. From the plate, Schroeder added a single, a walk and three runs scored over the two wins.

Anna Szepieniec, DeForest

Szepieniec was sensational as she led the DeForest girls track and field team to a team title at the Watertown Indoor Invitational. The senior track star broke two of her site records en route to winning a pair of individual events, getting a silver in another, and anchoring a relay winning team. In the 55 meter hurdles, Szepieniec won the event in 8.54 seconds, breaking her record of 8.76. She then broke her record in the 200 meter hurdles of 29.45 seconds by winning the race in 28.68 seconds. Szepieniec then served as the anchor leg on the 4x400 meter relay team that won in a time of 4:38.43. She finished the day finishing second in high jump with a height of 4-08.00. Szepieniec accounted for 38 total points on the day.
