Athlete of the Week Nominees: April 10-16

Gevongio Bynum, Martin Luther

Bynum had a great day at the Tom Burger Invite at Milwaukee Lutheran this past Saturday. The senior runner took home three individual first place finishes and a second place as well. His runner-up finish came in the 100 meter dash finishing with a time of 11.30 seconds, just .06 seconds behind first. Bynum then went on to win both the 200 and 400 meter dashes in times of 22.69 and 51.13 seconds respectively. Bynum then won the triple jump event, with a distance of 42-8.50.

Zachary Greenhill, Slinger

Greenhill took home top honors at the Hartford Invitational this past weekend. The junior golfer shot a 72 at the Washington County Golf Course in Hartford winning the invite by one stroke. Greenhill's 72 was one stroke better than last season's D1 State runner-up Mason Schmidtke of Sheboygan North.

Holly Lowenberg, Poynette

Lowenberg was phenomenal on the mound for the Poynette softball team this past week, accumulating three wins on the diamond. First in a 3-0 win over Columbus, the senior hurler allowed just one hit and struck out 14 batters over seven innings. She then pitched four innings of a five-inning combined no-hitter in an 11-0 win over Lakeside Lutheran. Lowenberg struck out nine batters in her four innings of work. She finished the week striking out 11 batters and allowing just three hits over seven innings in a 7-0 win over St. Mary's Springs. Lowenberg added four hits, including a home run and three doubles from the plate. She added eight RBIs, a walk and a run scored.

Annabelle Schroeder, Regis/McDonell Central

Schroeder was unstoppable on the soccer pitch last week in a pair of matches. The junior midfielder netted six goals in an 8-0 win over Arcadia/Independence early in the week. Schroeder followed that up with three goals and two assists in an 8-0 win over Wautoma/Wild Rose. Over the two matches, Schroeder scored nine of the team's 16 goals and accounted for 11 of them total.

Ava Washburn, Webster

Washburn almost single-handedly won the team title for the Webster girls track team at the Lakeland Conference Indoor Meet this past Saturday. The senior trackster won the 200 meter dash in 27.56 seconds to start the day. She then won the 55 meter hurdles in 8.90 seconds, setting a meet record. Washburn finished with wins in both the long and triple jump at 18-03.50 and 37-01.00 marks respectively. Both those jumps set new meet records, as Washburn set three meet records on the day. She accounted for 40 of the 149.50 points the Webster girls team scored, running away with the team title.
