Athlete of the Week Nominees: May 15-21

Michael Broeker, Marquette

Broeker took home a conference title this past week, competing at the Greater Metro Conference Championship at the Morningstar Golfers Club in Waukesha. The junior golfer shot a 69, finishing five strokes ahead of the second place finisher. Broeker's medalist honors helped lead Marquette to a team conference title.

Kalyssa Carter, Shoreland Lutheran

Carter found the back of the net time and time again for the Shoreland Lutheran girls soccer team this past week in two wins. First in an 8-0 win over Martin Luther, the freshman forward netted four goals of her own and assisted on another. Carter followed that up with three more goals and three more assists in a 7-5 victory over Dominican.

Gretta Grassel, Boscobel

Grassel has been dominant on the mound for the Boscobel Bulldogs all season and it was no different last week. First in a 16-0 win over Riverdale, the Mississippi State commit pitched a five-inning no-hitter. She struck out 11 batters, walked just two, and went two of four from the plate with two RBIS a walk and two runs scored. She followed up her no-hitter by pitching a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win over Mineral Point. Grassel struck out 12 more batters while giving up two hits. She added a hit and two stolen bases offensively. On the season, Grassel has 213 strikeouts.

Emmitt Krauter, Sheboygan Falls

Krauter swept the four individual events he competed in at the Eastern Wisconsin Conference Championships at Kiel this past week, setting two school records along the way. Krauter won the long jump with a distance of 20-10.50. He also won the 400 meter race in 51.33 seconds. Krauter then competed in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and set school records in both events. He won the 100 in 10.77 seconds and the 200 meter in 21.82 seconds. He earned 40 points to help Sheboygan Falls to a conference title on the boys side.

Josh Steger, Lomira

Steger has been great on both the mound and at the plate for the Lomira baseball team. Last week, the junior utility player began his week by hitting a two-run home run in a 3-2 win over Ripon. He then took the mound and pitched a complete game in a 10-1 win over Campbellsport. Steger allowed one run and struck out nine batters on the mound while adding an RBI and run scored from the plate. Steger finished his week going four of four from the plate with an RBI and two runs scored in another win over Campbellsport, 4-0.
