Below are the rSchoolToday Athlete of the Week Nominees for this week. Voting is open until Thursday at 2:00 pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

Athlete of the Week Nominees: June 5-11

Parker Etzel, Eau Claire Memorial

Etzel finished off his prep sports career in style, winning the WIAA Division 1 Boys Golf Individual State Title. The senior golfer took home medalist honors this year after finishing tied for second as a junior in 2022. Etzel shot a three-over par 147, finishing two strokes ahead of second place. He was tied for first after his first round 69 score and shot a 78 on the second day to win it. As a team, Eau Claire Memorial finished second overall.

Winston Knobloch, Winneconne

Knobloch also finished off his prep career with a WIAA boys golf state title, earning medalist honors in Division 2. The senior golfer shot a three-over par 147 on the Blackwolf Run at Meadows Course in Kohler. He shot a 72 in the first round and a 75 in the second to capture gold, finishing three strokes ahead of the second place finish. With Knobloch's help, the Winneconne team finished second in the standings.

Karly Meredith, Kaukauna

Meredith was once again lights out as the Kaukauna girls finished the season 30-0 and captured a third straight WIAA Division 1 State Championship and extending the program's winning streak to 81. First in a 6-0 win over Waterford in the quarterfinals, the sensational sophomore pitched a two-hit, complete game shutout, walking four batters and striking out ten. She added an RBI sac fly, two walks, a run scored and two stolen bases offensively. Meredith then pitched another complete game and got the win in a 9-4 victory over Oak Creek in the semifinals. She struck out seven batters and added two hits, an RBI, a run scored, two walks, and a stolen base offensively. Capping off her season, Meredith pitched a five-hit, complete game 4-0 shutout of Superior in the Division 1 state championship game. She struck out four batters and added two RBIs from the plate. Over her 21 innings of work on the mound, Meredith struck out 21 batters and allowed just three runs on twelve hits.

Peyton VandeLoo, Freedom

VandeLoo was incredible on the mound, leading the Freedom softball team to its second consecutive WIAA Division 2 State Championship. The sophomore hurler pitched a four-hit complete game in a 2-1 win over Turner in the semifinals. She struck out twelve batters over seven innings. Vandeloo then pitched an absolute gem in the 8-0 win over New London in the Division 2 championship game. She struck out six batters, walked two and allowed just five hits in the complete game shutout.

Mckenna Young, Brodhead

Young capped off her prep career on the diamond in style, leading Brodhead to a Division 3 state championship. In a 5-0 win over Somerset in the semifinals, the South Dakota commit pitched five innings and didn't allow a hit, earning the win on the mound. She struck out eleven batters over her five innings of work. Young then pitched a complete game shutout in an eight-inning, 1-0 win over Mayville in the Division 3 championship game. She struck out 16 batters and allowed just two hits over the extra-inning game.
