Recap of the 2023 WIAA Girls Soccer State Tournament

The 40th annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Girls Soccer Tournament was held from Thursday through Saturday at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee. 

Muskego, Whitefish Bay, Plymouth, and Kiel captured the gold ball in their respective divisions. 

Division 1

Muskego claimed its second consecutive Division 1 WIAA State Championship on Saturday, defeating Kettle Moraine, 3-1, in the title game. 

The Warriors' goals were scored by juniors Maggie Mattek and Anna Sikorski, and senior Taylor Czarapata. Sophomore Jess Fernau tallied two assists for coach Lance Matthews and the Warriors which finished the year with a 18-1-2 record. 

Kettle Moraine's goal was scored by junior Eiley Henderson. The Lasers ended the season with a 15-3-2 record.

Division 2

Whitefish Bay claimed the program's 10th WIAA Girls Soccer State Championship on Saturday. 

The Blue Dukes edged Oregon, 2-1, in the title game, which was a rematch of the 2022 state championship game won by Oregon. 

Whitefish Bay trailed 1-0 early in the second period before senior Sofia Englund tied the game and eight minutes later the Blue Dukes took a 2-1 lead (own goal). 

The Blue Dukes, coached by Rob Dubinski, finished the year with a 21-4-1 record. 

Oregon senior Aubree Caya scored the Panthers' lone goal. They ended the year with a 22-1-2 record.

Division 3

Plymouth claimed the first state title in program history, defeating Edgewood, 2-1, in the WIAA Division 3 state championship game. 

The Panthers' goals were scored by junior Melina Knowles and Sarah Welsch. Plymouth, coached by Brad Feick, finished the year with a 21-1-2 record. 

Edgewood's lone goal was scored by junior Isabel Iannacchino. The Crusaders ended the year with a 19-2-2 record.

Division 4

Kiel captured its first state title in program history, topping Cedar Grove-Belgium in double overtime, 6-5, in the Division 4 state championship game. 

Senior Taylor Schad found the net four times and added an assist for the Raiders.

Freshman Taavi Saeger scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist for coach Mike Pritchard and the Raiders which finished the year with a 28-0-1 record. 

Cedar Grove-Belgium (20-3-2) was led by sophomore Cora Erickson who tallied two goals and added an assist.
