The Bug Tussel Triple Threat Athlete of the Week is an honor given on WisSports.net to the top senior boys and girls three-sport athletes in the state. Players are recognized each week on WSN, with the a boys and girls winner of the Pat Richter Award at the end of the season to the best three-sport athlete of the year.

Meghan Schultz of New Berlin West has been selected as the 2022-23 female recipient of the Pat Richter Award from WisSports.net as the Bug Tussel Three-Sport Athlete of the Year.

Schultz competed in volleyball, basketball, and track & field at New Berlin West and earned all-state honors in two of the three sports as a senior. 

In volleyball, the 6-3 middle hitter collected 279 kills with a .514 hitting percentage to go along with 123 blocks for coach Jay Golsteyn and the Vikings as a senior. She helped New Berlin West claim the Woodland West title and a 25-12 overall record. Schultz was WVCA honorable mention all-state performer as a junior. 

On the basketball court, Schultz averaged 22.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.3 blocks per contest as a senior for coach Collin Thompson and the Vikings, leading them to a 17-8 record. Schultz was named WBCA All-State, Woodland West Player of the Year, and the Top Senior Post by WSN. Megan finished her career with 1,666 points and 861 rebounds. 

In track & field, Schultz was named WISTCA All-State in shot put and discus, and was selected as the Woodland Conference Athlete of the Year as a senior for coach Jim Braun and the Vikings. 

When Schultz was featured on WSN in June, she said her most memorable accomplishment was setting the Division 2 state record in the shot put (49’2.5”).

She also explained the best part of high school sports: 

"The best part about high school sports is by far the people you meet. Being part of a sport you make a lot of new friends especially if you are in multiple. The team bonding moments outside of the sport and connections during school are something that I will remember forever."

Schultz is signed to play basketball at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay and plans to get a degree in finance.
