Week 5 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Cameron Comets

Cameron made some big noise in the Heart O'North Conference by taking down favorite and defending league champion Northwestern 32-14. It was a close one into the fourth before the Comets tacked on 13 points to pull away. Tyson Lucas threw for 180 yards with two touchdowns, adding 77 yards and a score on the ground. Cole Peterson added 91 rushing yards and two touchdowns as well.

Fond du Lac Cardinals

Fond du Lac started 0-4 against a brutally tough schedule, and things didn't get any easier against previously unbeaten and D2 fourth-ranked Kaukauna on Friday night. The Cardinals rose to the occasion and gave their playoff hopes a big shot in the arm with a 34-24 victory. Fondy's offense put up more than 400 yards, with Connor Klapperich leading the way to the tune of 154 yards and two touchdowns through the air with 139 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Greenfield Hustlin' Hawks

Greenfield took down preseason Woodland Conference favorite 29-28 in a thriller on Friday night. It was back-and-forth throughout, with Greenfield scoring a touchdown on a one-yard Charlie Olson plunge with 2:36 to pull within a point. Head coach Mike Kubes chose to go for the two-point conversion, which was successful by David Fischer to put the Hustlin' Hawks on top. On the ensuing Grafton drive, defensive lineman Tanner Phelps batted a pass in the air and intercepted it to seal the deal. Olson and Fischer combined for 215 rushing yards in the game, while Jaden Valdez threw for 121 yards.

Sussex Hamilton Chargers

Sussex Hamilton took a big step towards defending its Greater Metro Conference title in a 48-24 trouncing of Brookfield Central. Tyler Hatcher continued his big season at quarterback, throwing for 244 yards and three touchdowns, adding 80 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground. Running back Hayden Coopersmith was excellent once again with 130 yards and two rushing touchdowns. LaDainian Mielke paced the Chargers with 17 tackles on defense, including a sack.

Winnebago Lutheran Vikings

The top three teams in the Flyway Conference have started to separate themselves, and two of those squads met up Friday night to try to keep pace. Winnebago Lutheran jumped out early and cruised home to a 35-14 road victory over Campbellsport. The total yardage was close between the teams, but WLA made the plays they needed to in order to get into the end zone, while Campbellsport struggled to get the ball over the line. Quarterback Sam Loehr totaled 227 yards of offense and ran for three touchdowns in the victory. Gannan Schwartz added a huge kick return touchdown.
