Athlete of the Week Nominees: September 18-24

Lauren Dallas, Fall Creek

The Fall Creek girls volleyball team took home a first place finish this past Saturday at Cameron as Dallas set her squad up for victory time and again. Before Saturday however, Fall Creek split a pair of Cloverbelt-West matches between Bloomer and Regi where Dallas had a combined 22 assists, 12 digs, three aces and two kills. At the Cameron Invite, the junior setter recorded 51 assists, 15 digs, three aces and three kills over five matches. The Crickets swept Rice Lake, Colfax, Prairie Farm, Boyceville and Cameron going a perfect 5-0, not dropping a single set.

Alex Edwards, Columbus Catholic

Edwards was spectacular this past week as the Columbus Catholic boys soccer team went 3-0 with a pair of conference wins. To begin the week, the senior forward netted two goals and assisted on another in a 9-0 shutout of Tri-County. Edwards then had two goals in a 3-1 non-conference win over McDonell/Regis. He finished his week with four goals in a 5-2 win over Amherst. For the season, Edwards has scored 36 goals himself and assisted on three others. Columbus Catholic sits at the top of the Central Wisconsin Conference standings with a perfect 7-0 record.

M.J. Mitchell, Catholic Memorial

Catholic Memorial has rattled off four straight wins after starting the season 0-2. A big reason why has been the steady play of junior quarterback M.J. Mitchell. In a 35-7 win over New Berlin West Mitchell completed six of eight passes for 111 yards and one score for a quarterback rating of 156.2. He also added 113 yards and two scores on the ground. Despite the two losses, Catholic Memorial has been the top-ranked team in Division 4 every week in the WSN Coaches Poll.

Owen Plate, Plymouth

Being a multi-sport athlete is very commonplace in high school sports. However, being a multi-sport athlete in the same season is usually something seen at the smaller schools. Plate is one of those athletes, playing on the soccer team and handling kicking duties for the Plymouth football team. Last week the senior dual-sport athlete scored a goal and added an assist in a 5-0 win over Ripon on the soccer pitch. He then netted three goals and assisted on two more in an 8-0 win over Sheboygan Falls. Plate then put on his football jersey and went four for four on extra points and made field goals of 47 and 33 yards in a 42-0 win over Waupun under the Friday Night Lights. Plate finished his week by then competing in the soccer match on Saturday against Notre Dame where he scored a goal despite a 4-3 loss.

Izzi Stricker, Waunakee

Izzi Stricker is on a mission this season; defend her WIAA Division 1 State Title. The Waunkee senior golfer started off the postseason side of this year by taking home a first place finish at the Badger Large Conference Championship. Stricker shot a 70 overall at the Watertown Country Club, finishing just one stroke ahead of the second place finisher. Stricker tied for 13th as a freshman and 14th as a sophomore at the state championship before winning the WIAA State title last year as a junior.
