Athlete of the Week Nominees: September 25 - October 1

Lauren Fischer, St. Mary Catholic

The St. Mary Catholic girls volleyball team with 5-0 this past week, including a 4-0 outing and a first place finish at the Wrightstown Invite. Fischer was dominant throughout. The senior outside hitter tallied 20 digs, 18 kills, three aces and three blocks in the 3-2 thriller of a match against Mishicot. Fischer then recorded 28 digs, 26 kills, four aces, four assists and two blocks over the four matches at Wrightstown. The Zephers got wins over Valley Christian, Freedom, Two Rivers and Hilbert. Fischer has St. Mary Catholic ranked ninth in Division 3 in the state and 20-3 overall.

Kelsey Justman, Wonewoc-Center

The Wonewoc-Center girls volleyball team came into the week 15-0. Justman is a big reason why the Wolves are now 21-0 on the 2023 season. In a 3-0 sweep of New Lisbon the senior outside hitter had 19 kills, four digs, two aces and two assists. She followed that up with 22 kills and eight digs in a 3-0 sweep of Hillsboro. Justman then accumulated 47 kills, 22 digs, six blocks and five aces as Wonewoc-Center went 4-0 and didn't drop a single set at the Belmont Invite with wins over Fennimore, Belmont, Argyle and Viroqua.

Lauren Lupinek, Oconomowoc

Lupinek will compete this week in sectional golf play in the WIAA Girls Golf Playoffs. The senior golfer won a regional title last week to get there. Competing at the Division 1 Oconomowoc Regional at the Watertown Country Club, Lupinek shot a 73, three over par to take home individual honors. Her 73 was seven strokes better than second place finisher Nina Lang of Arrowhead. Last year as a junior Lupinek finished ninth at the state meet and is on her way to compete for a state title again.

Hudson Torrez, Big Foot/Williams Bay

Torrez has been electric for the Big Foot/Williams Bay boys soccer team this season. The senior forward did more of the same this past week in a pair of matches. First in a 5-4 win over East Troy, Torrez netted a hat trick and added an assist in victory. He followed that up by netting another hat trick and assisting on four other goals in a 9-1 win over Monroe. For the season Torrez has 30 goals and 19 assists in eleven matches for the 10-1 co-op.

Jack Wesolowski, New Berlin West

Wesolowski was a one-man wrecking crew and put the team on his back as New Berlin West beat Pewaukee 21-7 this past Friday. The senior running back carried the ball 21 times for 263 yards and two scores for the Vikings. Wesolowski had touchdown runs of 24 and 78 yards and added six tackles defensively. New Berlin West had just 292 yards of total offense, meaning Wesolowski accounted for 90% of the offensive production.
