Athlete of the Week Nominees: October 2-8

Landon Christiansen, Somerset

Christiansen has been a key cog in the wheel for a Somerset boys soccer team that has yet to lose a match this season. This past week he found the back of the net five times in two wins. First in a 3-0 win over Cumberland, Christiansen netted a pair of goals. The senior forward then scored a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Altoona/Fall Creek. On the season, Christiansen has 39 goals and six assists and has led Somerset to a 17-0 record.

Emma Cunningham, Green Bay Preble co-op

Cunningham shot the second best score of the sectionals as she advanced to the state championships early this week at University Ridge in Madison. The freshman golfer shot a 72, one over par, to take home medalist honors at the Division 1 Kimberly Sectional at High Cliff Golf Course in Sherwood. Her 72 overall score was the second best around the state in sectional play, only behind Waunakee's Izzi Stricker.

Whitney Myers, Grantsburg

Myers set her teammates up for success all weekend as Grantsburg won the Cumberland Invite, winning five straight matches. Before the weekend, Myers had a combined 35 assists, 23 digs, eight kills and seven aces as the Pirates split matches with Unity and Luck. Grantsburg then took part in the Cumberland Invite and Myers recorded 46 assists, 20 digs, eight aces and six kills in wins over Washburn, Menomonie, Cumberland, Spooner and Amery. Grantsburg didn't drop a single set in the five victories.

Arthur Robinson, Watertown Luther Prep

Robinson carried a heavy load as he helped the Phoenix football team to a 27-20 win over Metro Classic foe Lake Country Lutheran. The senior running back carried the ball 26 times for 165 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Luther Prep improved to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Robinson has led the Phoenix to a tie atop the Metro Classic Conference standings with Lake Country Lutheran and Racine St. Catherine's and a postseason berth.

Carter Scholey, Belleville

Scholey came in third place in the WIAA Division 3 State Cross Country Meet last year, with the top two finishers graduating in 2023. The senior runner is working towards that state title, capturing another first place finish this past weekend. Scholey ran the Baertschi Invitational in Albany, finishing with a winning time of 16:28.40 minutes. He won by nearly 20 seconds over the second place finisher.
