Week 9 Team of the Week Nominees

Lomira Lions

Lomira clinched a playoff spot with a 13-6 victory over Mayville Friday night to finish 4-3 in the Flyway Conference. Mayville scored first but Connor Steers went in from seven yards out early in the second quarter to tie the game at half. It remained a tie ballgame heading into the fourth quarter, when Steers again found paydirt, this time from 22-yards out to provide the final margin.

Marshfield Tigers

Marshfield clinched a playoff spot in a 17-7 victory over visiting Hortonville on Friday night. The Tigers got on the board first when Adam Gilbertson hit Chris Pohl from 38-yards out. The game was knotted at halftime, but Kaleb Neuenfeldt returned an interception 48-yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter and Keegan Frederick banged home a 30-yard field goal to add on to the lead. The Tigers found a way to victory despite just 168 yards of offense.

Sparta Spartans

Sparta took down Baraboo 32-28 on Friday night, just barely sneaking into the playoffs, as seven of the eight Mississippi Valley squads qualified for the postseason. Sparta allowed 321 rushing yards to Baraboo, but made plays both offensively and defensively when they had to in order to secure the victory. Quarterback Thomas Laufenberg threw for 148 yards and a touchdown, adding a team-high 124 yards on the ground as well.

Tomah Timberwolves

Tomah started Mississippi Valley Conference play 0-4, but the Timberwolves rattled off three straight wins, including a 38-13 win over league-leading Onalaska to qualify for the playoffs. Tomah pulled away in the second half with three touchdowns, two by senior running back Logan Rufledt, who carried it 45 times for 297 yards and three touchdowns. Jackson Steffel also hit Eli Brown for a pair of touchdowns in the game.

Tomahawk Hatchets

Tomahawk needed a win in Week 9 to have any chance at the playoffs, and the Hatchets did just that against Clintonville, 29-20. Tomahawk led early on a 10-yard touchdown run by Landyn Seymour and had a 14-6 advantage at halftime. After Clintonville tied it up in the third quarter, the Hatchets got a safety a short time later and would not trail again, clinching the game on a 38-yard fumble return touchdown by Kaiden Kappellusch.
