Fall River junior Jenna Vermillion has been selected as the rSchoolToday Athlete of the Week for the week of October 23-29 after a statewide vote on WisSports.net.

There were 4,313 total votes this week. Vermillion topped all vote getters with 1,512 votes. Onalaska's Manny Putz came in second with 1,299 votes.

Vermillion and the Fall River girls volleyball team were on a mission this past week. Win two sectional matches and advance to the WIAA State Tournament. The Pirates did just that behind Vermillion's offensive attack. In a 3-0 sweep of Oakfield in the sectional semifinals the junior outside hitter tallied 21 kills, eight digs and a block. She followed that up with 23 digs, 21 kills and an ace in a 3-1 win over Barneveld in the sectional finals. Vermillion's performance is a big reason why Fall River is heading to the WIAA State Tournament for the first time in the girls volleyball program's history.

Vermillion and the Pirates will square off with Wonewoc-Center Friday morning at 9 am in a WIAA Division 4 State Semifinal matchup.
