Edgar's Karter Butt tied an all-division state finals record with five rushing touchdowns

The Edgar Wildcats claimed the Division 7 state title on Thursday morning, dominating Black Hawk/Warren (IL) in a 36-6 victory.

It is the eighth state championship for the Wildcats, all under head coach Jerry Sinz, who has now won titles in five different decades: 1970's, 1990's, 2000's, 2010's, and 2020's.

It was a measure of revenge for Edgar, who lost to Black Hawk in the 2018 Division 7 title game and to Black Hawk/Warren (IL) co-op in the 2019 Division 7 championship contest.

Karter Butt was dominant for Edgar, rushing for 171 yards on 19 carries, setting a new Division 7 championship record and tying the all-division record with five rushing touchdowns. Butt also recorded a game-high 15 tackles and picked off a Warriors pass on defense.

Butt's 42-yard touchdown run less than three minutes into the game opened the scoring for Edgar, and he added a four-yard plunge later in the first quarter. Black Hawk/Warren (IL) got its only score just before halftime when Eli Schliem hit Lane Marty from five yards out.

Edgar didn't give the Warriors much hope in the second half, however, with Butt scoring a 29-yard touchdown early in the third quarter with another 20-yard run a short time later.

Owen Seffrood led Black Hawk/Warren (IL) with 96 rushing yards on 17 carries, while Marty added 65 yards on 18 attempts in addition to his receiving score.

Edgar's eight state title comes in its state-record 14th state finals appearance. Edgar finishes 13-1 overall this year while Black Hawk/Warren's final record is 12-2.
