Lodi never punted and rolled up nearly 500 yards of offense in a 38-14 win over Luxemburg-Casco to capture the Division 4 WIAA football state title.

The Blue Devils sent veteran head coach Dave Puls out with a state title after 20 years guiding the program, which also included a D4 championship in 2017 and a runner-up finish in 2015. Puls announced earlier in the playoffs that this would be his last season with the Blue Devils.

Lodi's explosive offense was on display right from the get-go, as the very first play of the game was a 67-yard touchdown pass from Mason Lane to Aiden Groskopf.

After a Luxemburg-Casco interception on its first drive, Lodi marched 59 yards in 13 plays, capped by a four-yard run by Lane to put the Blue Devils up 14-0 in the first quarter.

Luxemburg-Casco had an answer, however, in the form of a 14-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in a two-yard touchdown plunge by Andrew Klass.

As they'd do all day, Lodi answered quickly as Lane hit Gavin Sargeant from 19 yards out less than three minutes later. Klass found the end zone from 58 yards out less than 30 seconds later, but the 21-14 advantage for Lodi was the closest that Luxemburg-Casco would be the rest of the way.

Brady Puls went 59 yards on a screen pass from Lane to push Lodi's advantage to 28-14, and the Blue Devils had one more scoring opportunity right before halftime but missed a field goal.

Just as they did in the first half, Lodi scored on its first offensive play of the second half as well, as Kylar Clemens went 74 yards for a touchdown. Lodi's offense would dominate the rest of the way, including a 17-play, 60-yard drive that took nearly 11 minutes off the clock in the third and fourth quarters to set up a Jacob Castillo Rosales field goal to provide the final margin.

Mason Lane celebrates a Division 4 state title

Senior quarterback Mason Lane had a huge performance in his final high school football game, completing 11-of-16 passes for 220 yards and three scores. He added 100 yards and a touchdown on the ground as well. Clemens led the way with 147 yards and a score on 18 carries.

Lodi finished with 488 yards of offense, 268 on the ground and 220 through the air. Luxemburg-Casco had 283 yards of offense, with Andrew Klass rushing for 81 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Senior quarterback Max Ronsman threw for 163 yards but completed just 13-of-26 passes with a pair of interceptions.

Luxemburg-Casco takes home a runner-up trophy in its first appearance in the state finals. The Spartans had not even advanced to the state semi-finals prior to this season's run, which included impressive wins over Two Rivers and Catholic Memorial.

Dave Puls finishes with a 174-48 record in his career guiding Lodi, with two state championship trophies and a runner-up.
