Athlete of the Week Nominees: November 20-26

Sydney Cherney, Reedsburg

Cherney is one of the top scorers in the entire state of Wisconsin and proved that point in Reedsburg's second game of the 2023-24 girls basketball season. The Grand Valley State commit set a school record in points scored in a game in the Beaver's 77-58 win over Stoughton last Tuesday. Cherney scored 52 points, almost outscoring the Vikings herself. The 5'10" guard added 15 rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Jaquan Johnson, Pius XI Catholic

Johnson is one of the top point guards in the state of Wisconsin and ranked tenth in the Class of 2024 by Mark Miller on WSN. He opened up his senior season with a bang, leading Pius XI Catholic to an 80-72 win over Milwaukee King. The Bradley commit scored 38 points and added twelve rebounds, nine assists, three steals and a block, filling the stat sheet. Johnson put constant pressure on the King defense as he shot 25 free throws, making 18 of them.

Amy Terrian, Pewaukee

The Pewaukee girls basketball team have probably the two most impressive wins to open a season that I can remember in state history. Terrian has been the catalyst. Two weeks ago the Pirates took down Division 2, top-ranked Notre Dame, who have beaten Pewaukee in back-to-back Division 2 State Championships. This week, Terrian led the Pirates to a 73-56 win over the top ranked team in Division 1, Hortonville. The Michigan State commit scored a career high 36 points in the victory, going 13 of 15 from the field and a perfect five of five from three. Terrian added five rebounds, four steals and three assists in the win.

Landen Thomer, Mosinee

Thomer was impressive as he helped the Mosinee boys basketball to a pair of wins and title at their home Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend. The 6'5" senior began his final prep campaign with 15 points and 19 rebounds in an 82-43 win over Kingdom Prep Lutheran on Friday. Thomer then had 23 points and 15 rebounds in a 78-61 win over New London. Thomer also averaged 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals and blocks through the two games, stuffing the box score.

Nick Voss, Bay Port

Voss put constant pressure on opposing defenses this past week, helping the Pirates to a 3-0 start to the 2023-24 season. The senior forward began the week with a goal and two assists in an 8-1 win over West Bend. He followed that up with five goals and two assists in a 9-1 win over Waunakee. Voss finished his week with two more goals and assists in an 8-1 win over University School of Milwaukee. For the week, Voss netted eight goals and assisted on two more, tallying 14 points.
