Athlete of the Week Nominees: January 8-14

Autumn Cooper, Superior

Cooper was all over the ice as the Superior girls hockey team picked up a pair of victories this past week. The senior forward began her week with two goals and an assist in a 4-0 shutout win of Cloquet/Esko/Carlton. She then had two more goals and added three assists in an 8-0 win over Medford. According to Wisconsin Prep Hockey, Cooper leads the state with 54 points scored on the year. She is second in the state with 27 goals and first with 27 assists.

Jesse DeBauch, Gillett

DeBauch recorded a pair of double-doubles as he helped the Gillett boys basketball team to a pair of wins this past week. First in a 67-36 dominant win over Suring, the junior guard had 29 points and 11 rebounds. He added three steals, two assists and a block, filling the stat sheet. DeBauch followed that up with 26 points and 10 rebounds in an 81-56 victory over Coleman. He added five assists, three steals and two more blocks in the victory. DeBauch and the Tigers are 8-4 overall and sit atop the Marinette & Oconto conference standings with a 6-1 league record.

Kayl Petersen, Waupun

Petersen and the Waupun girls basketball team took home an impressive non-conference victory this past Thursday in their only action of the week. The Marquette recruit led all scorers with 26 points in the contest, shooting 10 of 18 from the field. She added 15 rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks, stuffing the stat sheet. Waupun is 13-1 on the year and has been the top ranked team in Division 3 in the WSN Coaches Poll all season.

Lindsey Schadewalt, New Glarus

Schadewalt willed her team to a 71-61 Capitol-South victory over Belleville this past week. The Maryville commit scored a game high 35 points in the win and added 13 rebounds, recording her eleventh double-double of the season. Schadewalt added two assists and a steal and block. The stellar senior is just 14 points away from surpassing 2,000 in her career while she is also over 500 rebounds overall.

Bryson Vieth, Kimberly

The Kimberly boys basketball got just one game in this week, but it turned out to be one of the best of week as the Papermakers secured a 73-72, double-overtime win over Fox Valley Association rival Kaukauna. Vieth proved to be the difference. As the second overtime neared its end and Kimberly down one, Vieth caught the ball at the top of the key and drove to the basket, making the game-winning layup with three seconds left. The senior guard finished with 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and a shot he won't forget.
