The 81st Annual State Individual Wrestling Tournament produced 42 boys’ champions and 12 girls’ champions Saturday, including three wrestlers to claim the fourth championship of their high school careers.

The three additions to the prestigious list of wrestlers to win four boys’ titles increases the number to 29 in the history of the State Tournament. In addition, there were 28 former boys champions entering the tournament in pursuit of another title and 21 accomplished the feat. There were seven wrestlers who picked up their third title, 11 that won a title for a second time and 15 boy wrestlers that remained undefeated this season.

The girls’ tournament featured eight returning champions from a year ago, and four wrestlers added another championship to their accomplishments. There were nine girls that maintained their undefeated status this season.

Senior Connor Mirasola of West Bend West won his fourth straight title by injury default early in the title match at the 190-pound weight class in Division 1 to improve to 51-1 this season. Prior to this season, he wrestled to the championships at 195 in 2023, 182 in 2022 and 170 in 2021.

Senior Koy Hopke of Amery won his fourth championship by a fall at :49 of the 285 championship final in Division 2, giving him a 38-2 mark this season. He moved up a weight class this year after winning the 220 crown the past three seasons.

Senior Dawson Johnson of Cumberland scored a 7-2 decision in the final of the 138-pound class in Division 3 to win his fourth championship. Last season, his title came at 126 after winning the 120 crown in 2022 and the 106 gold medal in 2021. He completes his season with an unblemished 58-0 mark

Senior Wyatt Duchateau of Arrowhead won his third championship with a 10-5 decision at 150 to improve his record to 46-2 after earning the gold medal last year at 145 and at 132 in 2022. Senior Aeoden Sinclair of Milton scored a 16-8 major decision in his championship match at 215 to win his third title and finish undefeated this season with a 37-0 record. His two previous gold medals came at 220 last year and 170 in 2022. Cole Mirasola, brother of Connor, is now a three-time champion for West Bend West following his 7-4 decision in the championship final at 285, improving his record to 51-1 after he earned the 285 title last year and the 195 championship in 2022.

In Division 2, senior Charlie Meudt of Dodgeville won his third consecutive title with a 5-3 decision in the 120 championship match. He improved his record this season to 47-0 this season after winning at 113 last year and at 106 in 2022. Meudt’s teammate, senior Reid Spurley, also won his third championship in a row. He successfully defended the 120 title he won a year ago with a 7-4 decision in the final to improve his record to 9-0 this season. He won the 113 championship in 2022. Junior Danny Heiser of Evansville moved up three weight classes to claim the title at 132 with a 6-1 decision in the final. He runs his record this season to 53-1 after celebrating the 132-pound title last year and the 102-pound crown in 2022.

Junior Co’ Ji Campbell of Kenosha St. Joseph won his third consecutive championship in Division 3 by successfully defending the 120 title he won in 2023 and the 113 championship in 2022 by notching a 21-3 technical fall at 5:00 in the championship final. He finishes the season with a mark of 38-1.

Of the 11 wrestlers that celebrated their second State championship in the tournament, four came in Division 1. Junior Liam Neitzel of Hudson won the title at 120 with a 7-2 decision in his title bout to improve his record to 55-2 after earning the gold medal last year at 106. Sophomore Kellen Wolbert of Oconomowoc improved to 44-2 at 132 this season with a 9-3 decision in the final after winning at 120 a year ago. Senior Charlie Millard of Homestead also scored a 9-3 decision in his championship match at 157 to finish undefeated this season with a 54-0 record after capturing the title at 160 in 2023. Senior Jack Stoffel of Appleton North claimed a second title by scoring a 6-2 decision in the final to improve his unblemished record to 42-0 this season after he earned the title at 152 last year.

There were a pair of wrestlers that won their second championship in Division 2. Senior Wyatt Ingham of Amery won his second consecutive title with a 6-5 decision in the 190 championship tilt. He upped his record to 34-1 this season after winning at 182 last year. Senior Ian Smith of Northwestern won the title at 215 with a 3-2 decision in the final. He runs his record this season to 18-0 after celebrating the 195-pound title last year.   

In Division 3, five wrestlers earned their way to the podium for the second time. Senior Jake Fitzpatrick of Aquinas won his second title with a 13-6 decision in the Division 3 championship match at 113 after winning the 106 crown two years ago. He finishes the season with an undefeated mark of 43-0. Junior Tristan Steldt of Fennimore won the 157 championship with a 16-4 major decision in the final to improve his record to 41-4 this season after earning the gold medal at 160 last year. Senior David Malin of Aquinas was triumphant in his championship match with a 7-5 decision to earn the title at 175. He improved his record to 42-2 this year after earning the 170 championship in 2023. Senior Jackson Shramek of Blair-Taylor won the title at 215 following a pin at 1:45 in the final to run his record to 42-3 this season after claiming the title at 182 last season. Senior Evan Gratz of Fennimore won his second straight title at 285 by recording a 2-1 decision in the championship match to improve his season record to 39-5.

In addition to the aforementioned multiple champions that remained undefeated, six other champions haven’t experienced defeat this season, including Jacob Herm of Neenah at 144 in Division 1 (47-0), Liam Crook of Kaukauna at 165 in Division 1 (39-0), sophomore Haakon Peterson of Dodgeville at 113 in Division 2 (46-0), junior Owen Seffrood of Darlington/Black Hawk at 144 in Division 2 (49-0), senior Owen Wasley of St. Croix Central at 165 in Division 2 (56-0) and junior Wyatt Unser of Glenwood City at 126 in Division 3 (52-0)

Dodgeville won fourth individual championships, which is the most of any school with competitors in the tournament. Fennimore and West Bend West each claimed three individual championships and three other programs won a pair of individual titles, including Amery, Aquinas and Milton.  

In the girls’ tournament, junior Hailie Krueger of New London won her third championship with a 7-3 decision in the final at 152 after earning her first two gold medals at 145 in 2022 and 2023. She improves her record to 42-0 this season.

Sophomore Taylor Whiting of Lena was crowned champion at the 107-pound weight class for the second straight season. She notched a 3-2 decision in the title match to improve her record to 12-0 this year. Sophomore Carley Ceshker of Badger moved up two classes this year to win the title at 138 by pinning her opponent at :59 in the championship match. She improved her undefeated record to 22-0 this season. Junior Madison Burns of Ashland successfully defended her title at 235. She recorded a pin at :44 in the championship match to run her record this season to 36-1.

In addition to four multiple champions, five other girl champions haven’t been defeated this season, including sophomore Angie Bianchi of Two Rivers at 114 (30-0), sophomore Madi Peach of Milton at 126 (25-0), sophomore Lillie Banks of Menasha at 132 (46-0), senior Rachel Schauer of Fennimore at 165 (25-0) and freshman Brooke Huffman of Wittenberg-Birnamwood at 185 (41-0).

The State Team Wrestling Tournament will be held Friday-Saturday, March 1-2 at the UW Field House in Madison, Wis.
