Mineral Point senior Landon Thousand has been selected as the rSchoolToday Athlete of the Week for the week of March 11-17 after a statewide vote on WisSports.net.

There were 8,638 total votes this week. Thousand topped all vote getters with 3,192 votes. Wisconsin Lutheran's Kon Knueppel came in second with 2,476.

Thousand was incredible as he led the storied Pointers program to its first ever state championship game; providing one of the best moments of the weekend along the way. The senior wing filled the stat sheet in the first game, going for 24 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and a steal and a block. No shot was as important as the final one. The Pointers made an improbable comeback, down seven points with 22 seconds left to Aquinas in the Division 4 state semifinal. Down three with six seconds left, Thousand caught an inbound pass on the deep right wing and nailed the game-winning shot to give the Pointers a 62-61 win. Following that heart pounding victory, Mineral Point did it again in the state finals, winning on a last second put back 65-64 over Kenosha St. Joseph. Thousand finished the game with 15 points, eight assists, and six rebounds as head coach Dan Burreson and the Pointers claimed gold for the first time.

Thousand was named the co-Player of the Year in the SWAL Conference this season and was recently named a WBCA Division 4 All-State recipient.
