Saint Thomas More's McCottry picked as top wing in senior class

Amari McCottry of Saint Thomas More has been selected as the top senior Wing as part of the WSN Senior Basketball Awards

A three-time Player of the Year in the Metro Classic Conference, the 6-foot-6 McCottry played point guard, on the wing and even in the post at times for Saint Thomas More, which won the WIAA Division 3 state title and went 29-1 under coach Tony Mane. 

In four seasons of varsity competition, McCottry scored a school-record 2,284 points and snared 795 rebounds. 

McCottry, who is considering several NCAA Division I programs, including Xavier, averaged 22.1 points in 2023-24 while shooting 57 percent from the field, 73 percent from the foul line and 32 percent from three-point range. In addition to his scoring ability, McCottry also contributed 8.8 rpg, 5.3 apg and 2.1 spg.

Finalists for the award were McCottry, Bennett Basich of Arrowhead, Stevie Clark of Oshkosh North, Michael McNabb Jr. of Grafton and Nolan Minessale of Marquette.

Everest (2023), Andrew Rohde of Brookfield Central (2022), Cam Palesse of Waukesha West (2021), Johnny Davis of La Crosse Central (2020), Marcus Domask of Waupun (2019), Tyler Herro of Whitnall (2018), Kobe King of La Crosse Central (2017), Sam Hauser of Stevens Point (2016), Henry Ellenson of Rice Lake (2015), Kevon Looney of Milwaukee Hamilton (2014), Nick Fuller of Sun Prairie (2013), and Sam Dekker of Sheboygan Lutheran (2012).
