Waupun's Kayl Petersen chosen as the state's top senior wing

Waupun's Kayl Petersen has been chosen as the state's top senior wing as part of the WSN Basketball Awards

Petersen is an athletic and versatile wing who can score from the perimeter and in the paint and impact the defensive end of the floor.

The Marquette recruit led Waupun to a Division 3 sectional final and a 24-4 overall record.

The 6-1 wing/forward averaged 17.7 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.0 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game for the Warriors for coach Tim Aalsma and the Warriors. 

Kayl shot 48 percent from the floor and 73.6 percent from the charity stripe as a senior. 

Petersen, a finalist for Ms. Basketball, finished her career with 1,903 points, 1,116 rebounds, 324 assists, and 240 blocks.

She was named first-team Division 3 WBCA all-state in each of her last three seasons. Kayl was voted first-team All-East Central all four seasons and named the conference's player of the year three times.  

She helped lead Waupun to a 90-19 record with two state tournament appearances, including winning the 2022 D3 state championship. 

The finalists for the award were Petersen, Gracie Grzesk of Notre Dame, Eliana Sheplee of Rice Lake, Ally Timm of DSHA, and Gabby Wilke of Beaver Dam.
