Bay Port's Ellie McDermid selected as the state's top senior post player

Bay Port's Ellie McDermid has been selected as the state's top senior post player as part of the WSN Basketball Awards

McDermid is an interior presence who impacts the game with her ability to score inside and from the perimeter, rebound, and block and alter shots on defense. 

The 6-3 forward averaged 15.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game for coach Adam Lemorande and the Pirates, which finished the season with a 7-18 record. 

Ellie shot just under 50 percent from the floor. 

McDermid, an NCAA Division I Bradley University recruit, finished her career with 1,088 points, 735 rebounds, 149 assists, 119 steals, and 171 blocks. 

She was named Division 1 WBCA honorable mention all-state as a senior. 

Ellie earned first-team all-FRCC as a junior and senior and second-team all-league as a sophomore. Ellie was selected to the FRCC all-defensive team as a sophomore, junior, and senior. 

The finalists for the award were McDermid, Abby Cole of Winnebago Lutheran, Kelly Kray of Wausau West, Delaney Nyenhuis of Oregon, and Alyssa Wirth of Altoona.
