Athlete of the Week Nominees: March 25-31

Sam Galang, Wausau West

Galang was electric for the Wausau co-op boys lacrosse team over the weekend. The junior willed his team to a pair of wins over the weekend at D.C. Everest. First in an 11-3 win over the Sun Prairie co-op, Galang netted a trio of goals himself from his attackmen position. He followed that up with a nuclear performance in a 19-4 win over Superior. Galang finished with seven goals and four assists in the victory. Over the two games he scored ten goals and added four assists, scoring 14 points total.

Keagan Paulson, Monroe

Paulson was exceptional in the Monroe softball team's first two games of the season. Taking the mound to start in both games, she recorded two wins while the Cheesemakers competed at Pigeon Forge in Tennessee. In the season opening, 12-0 win over Toledo Christian (OH), Paulson pitched three of the five innings, giving up zero hits and striking out seven. She partnered with Sophie Golembiewski to pitch a five-inning perfect game. From the plate, Paulson went one for two with a walk, an RBI, a stolen base, and two runs scored. The sophomore hurler then pitched a five-inning complete game in a 12-1 win over Salem (OH). She struck out ten batters and allowed just one run on two hits. Paulson went two for two with two RBIS, two runs scores, a walk, and a stolen base.

Olivia Peters, Hortonville

Peters had a good first week for the Hortonville softball team this past week. The junior pitcher/infielder was great from both the mound and plate as the Polar Bears won a trio of games at the Ripken Experience Pigeon Forge in Tennessee. First in a 7-2 win over Coventry (OH), Peters took the mound and pitched a complete game, striking out 12 batters and allowing two runs (one earned), on four hits over seven innings. She scored a run offensively. Peters then collected another win in an 8-5 victory over Marysville (OH), pitching three and a third innings, striking out four batters and allowing just one earned run. She added a walk from the plate. Peters then went two for two with two RBIs and a run scored in the Polar Bears 15-0, three-inning win over Monroe (OH) to finish out her week.

Payton Schreiber, Abbotsford/Colby

Schreiber was great for the Abbotsford/Colby co-op baseball team despite the team going just 1-2 while competing in Tennessee last week. He took the mound in the lone win for the Falcons, an 11-0, five-inning victory over Rensselaer Central High School out of Indiana. Schreiber pitched the five-inning complete game shutout and struck out eleven batters while allowing just one hit and four walks. He added four RBIs from the plate, going two for four. Schreiber went one for four from the plate in the following two games with two walks and a run scored.

Anabella Valdivia, Racine Horlick

Valdivia couldn't have had a better opening match for the Racine Horlick girls soccer team. The junior forward accounted for six of the eight goals in the Rebel's 8-0 win over Racine Lutheran. Valdivia netted four goals of her own in the win. She also assisted on two others. She scored ten points herself with the four goals and two assists, which currently puts her at the top of the WSN stat leaderboards.
