Athlete of the Week Nominees: August 15-21

Mabel Ciepluch, Milwaukee King

Ciepluch was great in three soccer matches this past week for Milwaukee King. The Generals scored three blowout, shutouts against fellow Milwaukee City schools. In a 12-0 win over Milwaukee Bradley Tech/Arts the senior midfielder had two goals and three assists. She followed that up by netting just one goal in the 12-0 win over Milwaukee Hamilton/Audubon. However, she assisted on an incredible eight goals in that victory. Ciepluch ended her week netting four goals and assisting on two more as King beat the Milwaukee Pulaski co-op 10-0.

Katie Geydoshek, Green Bay Preble

Geydoshek is one of the top players in the state and was exceptional this past week as Preble went 4-1 on the busy week. She began her week by just scoring a run in a 19-1 win over Notre Dame. She then took the mound and shouldered the loss in a 2-1 decision to Ashwaubenon. She was electric on the mound regardless, striking out 13 and allowing just one earned run while going two for two win an RBI at the plate. Geydoshek went one for two with an RBI and run scored in a 15-0 victory over Sheboygan South in game one of a double header. She went two for two with four RBIs, three runs scored, and a home run in game two, while also pitching one inning and striking out three. She Loyola Chicago commit saved her best for last in a 10-0 win over Green Bay Southwest. Geydoshek won the five-inning game, pitching her second no-hitter of the season and striking out 13 batters. She added a hit from the plate.

Gunnar McFadden, Waunakee

The Waunakee boys lacrosse team won a trio of games this past week as McFadden continued to excel on field. First in a 7-6 overtime win over Middleton, the senior attacker netted three goals and assisted on two others. He followed that up with two goals and two assists in a 15-1 thrashing of Watertown. McFadden duplicated that performance of two goals and two assists in the 13-1 win over Oregon. For the week, McFadden scored seven goals and assisted on six others.

Robbie Meyers, Waterford

Meyers took home a first place finish at the Hartford Invitational this past weekend, using an incredible second round to win it. Before the weekend invite, the junior golfer competed with his team at the Southern Lake Conference Major #1 at the Twin Lakes Country Club. He shot a 78, finished second, and helped his team to a first place finish in the standings. Meyers then competed at the Hartford Invitational, a two-day invite that was held at both the Hartford golf course and the Washington County Golf Course. Friday, Meyers shot a 74. Saturday, he shot a 71, one under par, to finish with a 145 total. Meyers finished one stroke ahead of three others and took home a victory in the 200-plus entrant invite.

Kaden Russo, Elk Mound

Russo has started off his senior season strong for the Elk Mound baseball team. This past week, he was great from both the plate and the mound. Monday, in a 12-2 win over Glenwood City, the senior slugger went three for three from the plate with a home run and three RBIs. He added a walk, run scored, and stolen base. The Concordia-Wisconsin commit then took the mound against a strong Bloomer team and took home the win in the 7-5 victory. Russo pitched four innings, struck out nine, and allowed two runs on two hits. From the plate he went one for three with an RBI, walk, run scored, and stolen base. Russo finished his week off going one for three with another home run and two RBIs in a 5-0 win over Colfax. For the week, he had five hits, two home runs and six RBIs.
