Athlete of the Week Nominees: April 15-21

Ella Mautz, Kettle Moraine

Mautz helped the Kettle Moraine girls lacrosse team to a 3-1 week last week, scoring and assisting on a majority of the goals for the Lasers. First in a 15-10 win over University School, she scored two goals of her own, but assisted on seven others. She followed that up with four goals and five assists in a 19-1 win over Waukesha West and four goals and another assist in an 8-4 win over Hudson. Kettle Moraine then went to Gentry Academy in Minnesota and took the lone loss of the week, a 17-9 defeat to the out of state opponent. Mautz still played very well, scoring and assisting on two goals apiece. For the week, the junior midfield scored twelve goals and assisted on another fifteen over the four matches.

Mason Roell, West Bend East

Roell was unstoppable at the plate this week for the West Bend East baseball team. He began his week by going two for four with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored in an 8-7 win over Slinger. The senior slugger also got the win on the mound, pitching three innings and striking out five batters. In the second game of the week, Roell went three for four with another home run. He had six RBIs, two stolen bases, and a run scored in the 9-4 win over Whitefish Bay. He then went two for four with another four RBIs in a 7-5 loss to Nicolet. He did take the loss on the mound despite allowing no earned runs and striking out two batters in two innings of work. Roell finished his week going two for two with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk in a 14-3 win over Oshkosh West. On the week, Roell collected nine hits, fifteen RBIs, five runs scored, two stolen bases and hammered two home runs from the plate.

Kiran Sanford, Mishicot

The Mishicot softball team is a powerhouse currently, starting the season 11-0 and dominating the opposition. Sanford has been absolutely electric on the mound. In back-to-back games last week, the junior pitcher recorded no-hitters, her third and fourth in the past two weeks. Tuesday, the Sanford took the mound in the 6-0 win over Sevastopol. She pitched a complete game, allowing no hits over seven innings, while allowing just four walks and striking out none. She was one for two from the plate with a walk as well. Two days laster, Sanford took the mound against Hilbert. She pitched a four-inning perfect game, not allowing a single base runner in the 20-0 win. She struck out seven batters in the contest and added a hit, walk, and run scored from the plate.

Evelyn Shaw, Adams-Friendship

Shaw was unstoppable on the pitch last week, leading the Adams-Friendship team to a 1-0-1 record. The senior midfielder did everything in her power to get a win in the 6-6 tie with Assumption on Tuesday. She netted all six goals for the Green Devils. Shaw was equally as impressive in the following 6-1 win over Amherst/Iola-Scandinavia. She scored another four goals in the win, accumulating ten total in just two matches. She currently is second in the state in scoring on the WSN leaderboards with 42 points on the season.

Luke Taebel, Holmen

Taebel took home a pair of wins this past week on the links for the Holmen boys golf team. The senior golfer started his week off winning the first mini-meet of the Mississippi Valley Conference, played at the Coulee Golf Bowl in Onalaska. Taebel shot a 68, winning the meet by seven strokes over the next best golfer. He then competed at the Reedsburg Invitational at the Reedsburg Country Club. Taebel shot a 71 which tied for the low-round of the day. His performance also helped Holmen win the event as a team with a low score of 318.
