Athlete of the Week Nominees: April 29 - May 5

Ethan Conto, Mukwonago

Conto is second in the entire state in scoring in boys lacrosse through May 5. Last week, he helped his squad to a pair of wins, including a monster performance in his second match of the week. First, he netted two goals on eight shots on goal in a 9-6 non-conference win over Verona. The senior then was a nightmare for the Waukesha co-op on Wednesday in the 15-8 victory. Conto scored seven goals for the third time this season and assisted on one more. Conto leads the state with 49 goals on the season and is second with 59 total points scored.

Kenna Mix, New London

Mix was spectacular as the New London softball team went 3-1 on the week, including three wins on Saturday at the Winneconne Invite. The senior took the mound early in the week and took the loss, 4-2 to Menasha, despite allowing just two earned runs and striking out three through six innings. From the plate, she a hit, a walk, and an RBI. Mix then got the win on the mound in a 5-1 win over host Winneconne, striking out nine and allowing no earned runs on five hits. She also went two for four with a solo home run. In the ensuing 8-1 win over Appleton North she went one of three from the plate with an RBI and run scored and pitched two innings to close out the win, striking out three and allowing one hit. Mix got one more win on the mound against highly ranked Freedom by a score of 5-4. She struck out two batters and allowed three earned runs while walking four times from the plate.

Ava Rizzitano, Kenosha St. Joseph

Rizzitano was exceptional on the pitch this past week, willing the Kenosha St. Joseph girls soccer team to a pair of victories. The senior forward scored five goals and assisted on another in the Lancer's 8-2 win over Shoreland Lutheran. She followed that up with a hat trick, scoring all three goals, in the 3-1 win over Kenosha Bradford. Rizzitano sits atop the leaderboards on WSN with 32 goals scored on the season and is second in points with 68 total points scored in 2024.

Tavian Shramek, Blair-Taylor

Shramek was dominant for the Blair-Taylor baseball team this past week, pitching a pair of shutouts and allowing just one hit over 13 and a third innings of work. To begin, the junior hurler struck out 19 and allowed just one hit on 89 pitches in a 1-0, complete game shutout of Eau Claire Immanuel. He added a walk and a stolen base offensively. Shramek then took the mound against rival Eleva-Strum and again dominated. He pitched the first six and a third innings in that one, combining with teammate Brady Thompson to pitch a no-hitter in the 1-0 victory. Shramek struck out 17 batters. Not only that, he went three for three from the plate and knocked in the lone run of the game on a solo home run in the fifth.

Ryan Swanson, River Falls

Swanson had a busy week for the River Falls boys golf, winning two out of three events along the way. First, the sophomore golfer competed at Lake Wissota Golf Course in Chippewa Falls at the Big Rivers Conference Mini-Meet. He shot a 35, good enough to win that leg by one stroke over four conference foes. He then competed at the Holmen Viking Invitational at The Club at Cedar Creek in Onalaska. Swanson had his worst outing of the week, shooting an 82. He bounced back at the MACC Fund Invitational at the beautiful Erin Hills over the weekend however. Swanson shot a 67 to take home medalist honors, winning by one stroke over DeForest's Lincoln Hottmann.
