Athlete of the Week Nominees: May 20-26

Isabella Albert, Dodgeland

Albert excelled on the track this past week during the regional and sectional meets, advancing to the state tournament in three events. Competing at the Pardeeville regional on Friday, Albert won the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash in times of 12.64 and 26.25 seconds respectively. She also anchored the 4x100 meter relay winning team that finished with a time of 51.01. Dodgeland tied for the regional team title. The junior runner then won all three of those events while competing at the Horicon sectional. Her times got better in both individual events, finishing in 12.50 seconds in the 100 meter dash and 25.93 seconds in the 200 meter dash. The 4x100 meter relay team won in 50.82 seconds.

Addison Braun, Waupun

Braun was exceptional for Waupun, leading the Warriors to a regional title on the mound. The sophomore hurler took the mound in a regional semifinal matchup with Winneconne and tossed a no-hitter in the 1-0 squeaker of a win. Braun struck out 11 batters and walked just three in her no-hit performance. On top of that, Braun knocked in the only run of the inning on a double in the fourth inning. She followed that up with a four-inning 16-1 win over Ripon in the regional championship. Braun allowed just two hits and one unearned run while striking out 11 batters over four innings.

Nico Castellanos, Madison La Follette

Castellanos had great regional and sectional days this past week, advancing to the state tournament in three separate events. The senior distance runner took home gold in the 1600 and 3200 meter races at both the Stoughton regional and Beaver Dam sectional meets. He ran the 1600 meter race in 4:32.52 at the regional level and in 4:15.82 at sectionals while finishing the 3200 meter race in 9:47.22 at regionals and 9:21.90 at sectionals. Castellanos also was a part of the 4x800 meter relay team that won both regional and sectional titles with, anchoring the team toe an 8:15.53 finish at regionals and 7:58.72 finish at sectionals.

Mason Haupt, West De Pere

Haupt tied for the lowest round of golf shot during the regional meets last week, earning medalist honors at his meet and advancing to the sectional play. The senior golfer shot a four under par 69 at the West De Pere hosted regional, played at the Fox Valley Golf Club. He finished seven strokes ahead of the second place finisher. Haupt, will now compete at the WIAA Division 1 Sectional Meet at Thornberry Creek in Hobart today, May 28.

Kolton Vogelsberg, Potosi/Cassville

Vogelsberg was dominant on the mound as the Potosi/Cassville baseball team shut out Monticello/Albany 7-0 in the opening regional matchup last Thursday. The sophomore tossed a no-hitter in the shutout win, striking out 11 batters and walking just four in the playoff victory. He added a hit, RBI, walk, run scored, and stolen base from the plate, showing his versatility. The co-op has struggled this season, so Vogelsberg performance was huge in getting his team a playoff victory.
