Eau Claire North

How they got here…
The Huskies took the Big Rivers title with a 9-3 conference record, finishing the regular season 15-4. After a first round bye, the Huskies snuck by conference foe Hudson in the regional final with a 49-46 win. The sectionals proved an easier task, as North dispatched Menomonie and Wausau West with double-digit wins.



Notables…
North is led by one of the better frontcourts in the state with the 6 7 Tyler Brown and 6 11 Evan Anderson. Brown is the 11th ranked junior in the state according to Mark Miller of Wishoops.net, while Anderson is the second-ranked sophomore in the state and has received scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Marquette, Boston College, and Iowa State. This is Coach Pat Hammond s fifth time leading North to state in his 25 years on the bench. The Huskies last state appearance was in 1992 at the Field House.





Bay Port


How they got here…
Bay Port won the Fox Rivers Classic Conference title with a 15-2 league record and an 18-2 overall record. The #1 seed in their sectional, Bay Port went through De Pere and Ashwaubenon before beating FVA power Appleton East 55-49 on March 1st.



Notables…
This is the Pirates first ever trip to state. Last season, Bay Port made a run through the WIAA tournament which ended with a sectional final loss. Bay Port s deep roster is led by 6 5 forward Cole Meyer, ranked 31st in the senior class by Mark Miller of Wishoops.net. Meyer scored 18 points in the Pirates win over Appleton East and 21 in their win over Ashwaubenon.





Madison Memorial

How they got here…
Memorial finished the regular season with only one in-state loss, a 57-55 setback at the hand s of Big Eight rival Beloit in December. The 15-1 conference record was enough to claim the Big Eight crown, while their only other loss came against Minnesota s Benild-St. Margaret High School. The Spartans beat Madison West and Watertown in the tournament, then handed upstart Waunakee their only loss of the season.  



Notables…
The Spartans have a wealth of talent with junior Jeronne Maymonn and sophomores Vander Blue and Tre Creamer all ranked in the state s top 20 of their respective classes according to Wishoops.net s Mark Miller. Madison Memorial has reached state every year since 2004, including a 2005 state championship. Last season, the Spartans lost in the quarterfinals to Milwaukee Vincent.



Oshkosh West

How they got here…
After finishing third in the Fox Valley Association, the Wildcats beat Fond du Lac and Sheboygan North before taking down cross-town rival Oshkosh North with a last second shot in the sectional final.



Notables…
Oshkosh West has a rare opportunity to "three-peat" after winning back-to-back state championships in 2006 and 2007. The Wildcats are led by 5th-ranked senior John Benkoske, 43rd-ranked junior Paul Wojahn, and 10th-ranked sophomore David Anderson, according to Mark Miller s Wishoops.net rankings. This is 1996 Wisconsin Mr. Basketball Brad Clark's first season as head coach.



Germantown

How they got here…
Germantown finished with an undefeated conference record and a 19-1 overall record in the regular season. Their only loss came to Menomonee Falls on December 1st and the Warhawks have won 20 games in a row since then. They cruised to easy victories over Waukesha South and Hamilton (Sussex) before taking down powerhouse Milwaukee Vincent in the sectional final.



Notables…
This is the Warhawks first trip to the state tournament in school history. Germantown forward Ben Averkamp is ranked 4th in the state s junior class according to Mark Miller of Wishoops.net. Guard Rick Bowers is also ranked 36th in the senior class.



Badger

How they got here… The Badger Badgers won the Lakeshore Conference crown and finished with a 15-5 regular season record. The Badgers beat Stoughton and Janesville Craig by three points each before defeating Verona on March 1st in the sectional final.



Notables…
The Badger Badgers are led by senior Jimmy Merritt s 17 points per game and junior Braden Tice s 15 ppg. This is the Badger Badger s third trip to state after appearances in 1982 and 1999. The Badger Badgers are indigenous to Lake Geneva.



Brookfield Central

How they got here… The Lancers were runners-up to Wauwatosa East in the Greater Metro Conference and finished the regular season 15-4. After taking down Milwaukee Pulaski and Racine Case in relatively easy fashion, Central won a hard-fought 72-68 victory over Racine Horlick in the sectional final.



Notables…
This is Brookfield Central s eighth trip to state, including appearances in 2000, 01, 02, 03, 06, and 07. The Lancers are led by senior guards Cory Degner (17.5 ppg) and Luke Duckett (14 ppg).



Wauwatosa East

How they got here… Wauwatosa East won the Greater Metro Conference title with a 13-1 conference record and a 19-1 overall regular season record. The Red Raiders won regional games over Milwaukee Marshall and Whitefish Bay before winning sectional games against Milwaukee Custer and Milwaukee King.



Notables…
Tosa East has been to Madison 15 times, including titles in 1948 and 1989. The Red Raiders last state appearance was in 2002. Forward Jake Barnett is ranked 9th in the senior class by Wishoops.net s Mark Miller, while fellow senior Brice Powell is ranked 48th. Eric Williams is ranked 15th in the junior class with Keondre Gholston coming in at 44 in the class. Barnett, Powell, and Williams are all averaging double-figures in the scoring column this season.
