Luck

How they got here… The Cardinals dominated all year long, finishing 23-2 and ranked 10th in the state. Luck dominated Weyerhaeuser 79-29 in the first round of the playoffs then trumped Turtle Lake 59-33 before barely edging out Clayton (40-39) and Thorp (48-46). The Cardinals knocked off Mellen in the sectional final to advance to state. Luck tied for first place in the Lakeland-West conference with Webster.

Notables… Senior guard Cody Richert leads the high-flying Cardinal attack with 14.2 ppg. Junior forward Brennan Olson (13.2 ppg) and 6 7" center Tyler Petersen (10.9 ppg) also contribute with a high level of scoring… Olson and Richert each have pulled down over eight boards per game this season…. This is just the second trip to state for Luck (1973).

Randolph

How they got here… The Rockets edged Benton 49-47 to make their way to an 11th trip to Madison since 1988. Losing to Waupun (62-59) in a non-conference game just days before Christmas awoke the Rockets. Randolph continued its conference winning streak to well over 100 games as they cruised to an 18-0 conference record in the Trailways North, and a 24-1 record overall on the season.

Notables… Junior guard Tyler Tillema scored 24 points in the sectional final against Benton. Tillema, whose brothers Ryan and Dan each play at the collegiate level, has averaged 13.1 ppg this season…. Bryan Johnson averages just a shade below 18 ppg, and Kyle Kelm averages nearly 15 ppg…. Kelm is ranked No. 8 overall in Mark Miller s Top 10 college prospects rankings…. Randolph has won the state title in six of its last seven visits to Madison, which included a four-year run from 2002-2005… Head coach Bob Haffele, in his 18th year, is 388-57 at Randolph.

Suring

How they got here… Returning all of their top players from a year ago, the Eagles knew they would be able to compete for a state title for a second year in a row. The Eagles finished the regular season undefeated, with Eleva-Strum as the only other team in the state without a loss. After cruising through the Marinette & Oconto conference, Suring knocked off Florence, Niagara, Wausaukee, Bowler, and Marshfield Columbus by a combined score of 371-183. The closest call the Eagles had to keep them from getting back to state was its 21-point win over Marshfield Columbus (59-38).

Notables… Senior guard Josh Regal averages over 20 ppg to lead the Eagles. Seniors Cody Lechleitner (15.8 ppg), Rylan Bartz (12 ppg), and Kris Wilber (9.1 ppg) each contribute at the net… With just one more win, head coach Gary Regal will have 50 victories over the past two seasons – a prized commodity for any coach…. With 11 seniors on its roster, the Eagles will likely be playing with some extra fire to get in as many games as they can at the Kohl Center.

Eleva-Strum

How they got here… Finishing the season as one of only two teams to go undefeated, the Cardinals could potentially meet Suring in a state championship of undefeateds. Eleva-Strum captured their ticket to Madison with a 43-26 win over Seneca. Throughout the year, the Cardinals dominated teams on its way to a 14-0 conference record in the Dairyland-South. Arcadia posed as Eleva-Strum s only threat to end the perfect season on Feb. 4, but the Cardinals pulled out the 37-36 victory on the road. No other game throughout the rest of the season came within 13 points.

Notables… This is Eleva-Strum s third straight trip to Madison and fifth overall, though the Cardinals have never captured the gold…. Lance Rongstad leads the team in scoring (14.3 ppg), but the rest of the team balances out. Eleva-Strum averages 66.9 ppg, while holding their opponents to just 34.1 ppg…. In his 23rd year as a head coach, Rich Roginski has compiled a 381-146 record with the Cardinals.
