The 2010 WIAA boys state basketball playoffs are officially underway! You can find scores from every game on our Brackets page, which has also been updated to show games for round two. Here are some quick impressions from a busy round one:

Upset City

Looking past simple #5 over #4 or #9 over #8 games, which are basically coin flips most of the time anyway, there were quite a few upsets in round one, including three #2 seeds falling to #7 seeds.

#11 Kenosha Tremper 52-32 over #6 Elkhorn

#10 Mukwonago 48-41 over #7 Waukesha North

#6 Reedsburg 57-56 over #3 Wisconsin Dells

#7 Prescott 74-70 2OT over #2 Glenwood City

#7 Gillett 60-50 over #2 Coleman

#6 Stanley-Boyd 66-57 over #3 Neillsville

#7 Princeton 51-39 over #2 Almond-Bancroft

#6 Niagara 62-50 over #3 Florence

#6 Athens 80-70 over #3 Northland Lutheran

#7 Greenwood 56-43 over #2 Loyal

#7 Plum City 65-43 over #2 Alma/Pepin

Survive and Advance

Oftentimes that is what the playoffs turn into, and you just need to survive to play another day. An ugly win in the playoffs is still a win, even if it was a little closer than you'd like. For these higher-seeded teams, they probably would have liked a little more breathing room in round one.

#5 Watertown 50-47 OT over #12 La Crosse Logan

#6 Sun Prairie 51-48 over #11 DeForest

#7 Madison La Follette 55-53 over #10 Holmen

#2 Milwaukee Riverside 66-62 over #15 Milwaukee Custer

#5 Milwaukee Vincent 48-46 over #12 Waukesha South

#2 Mount Horeb 44-42 over #7 Dodgeville (scored a layup at the buzzer)

#2 FVL 43-36 over #7 Chilton

#3 Darlington 52-46 OT over #6 New Glarus

#2 Colfax 51-49 over #7 Unity

#2 Washburn 62-58 over #7 Cameron

Century City

There were only a couple teams in the regular season that scored over 100 points in a game, but in the playoffs where games that often pit teams that are quite unevenly matched, scores can sometimes get pretty lop-sided. That's just what happened in these contests.

Germantown 122-51 Milwaukee Madison

Whitefish Bay Dominican 106-34 Wisconsin Career Academy

South Shore 102-15 Lac Courte Oreilles

Rivalry Games in Round Two
