GRAND CHUTE – The rain is still falling at Fox Cities Stadium.

But we have an update from Todd Clark of the WIAA. The association spokesman said the Division 1 state baseball semifinals will be played in Oshkosh at Tiedemann Field on Wednesday.

Divisions 4, 3 and 2 will be held as scheduled at Fox Cities Stadium with the championship games on Thursday at Fox Cities Stadium.

The WIAA Division 1 state baseball quarterfinal game between Waterford and Hartford was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning with Waterford holding an 8-5 lead.

WIAA officials were hopeful the game could be completed along with the final Division 1 quarterfinal game of the day between Fort Atkinson vs. Madison La Follette.

Clark said the Waterford-Hartford game could be resumed at 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.

"This looks like it could last for four hours," said WIAA deputy director and tournament Wade Labecki shortly after the game was suspended at 3:38 p.m. "We re hopeful of finishing this round today."

Waterford jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Tyler Merlo delivered an RBI-single and Zach Forray followed with a three-run home run.

Hartford pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the second inning without a base hit when the Orioles loaded the bases on three infield errors.

With two outs, second baseman Joe Sturiino then was charged with his second error of the inning when he collided with center fielder Dylan Dessart on Tony Brandner's popup behind second base.

The miscue cleared the bases and got Hartford within striking distance.

But Waterford jumped on Hartford pitcher John Sprtel for four more runs in the third to increase its lead to 8-3. Kyle Reitter drove in a run with a fielder's choice. Justin Kurth, Cody Todryk and Dylan Dessart followed with RBI-singles.

Cody Klink and Nick Butchart had RBI singles in the third to trim Waterford's lead to 8-5.
