"Dugout Chatter" is a behind the scenes look at your favorite prep baseball player.

Name: Tell Taylor

School: Burlington

Year: Senior

GPA: 3.4

Favorite subject:
gym

Position: Shortstop

Other sports: basketball, football

I got my start in sports: I was born into a sports family, so as soon as I started walking and they started throwing to me. I played tee-ball, basketball and soccer in kindergarten and football in middle school.

Baseball highlights: three-time letterwinner and three-year starter at shortstop … a co-captain as a senior … Demons played in the Southeast Conference during his first three years of high school and moved into the Southern Lakes Conference his senior year … earned All-Southeast Conference first-team honors as a junior and second-team honors as a sophomore … earned All-Racine County first-team honors as a junior and sophomore … played in 2008 Brewer Classic … named 2008 American Legion State Tournament Most Valuable Player … played for 2008 Legion State championship team … plays for the Racine Hitters during the summer.

2009 team highlights: The Demons finished 17-9, including an 8-7 mark and a fourth-place finish in the Southeastern Conference.

2010 update: Taylor is batting .480 with two home runs and 26 RBI … Demons (24-2 overall) won the Southern Lakes Conference title with a 13-1 record … the Demons, who were ranked fourth in the latest Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association Division 1 poll, are seeded first in the Lake Geneva Badger sectional.

Other sports honors: three-time letterwinner and three-year starter in basketball as a point guard as a sophomore and junior and shooting guard as a senior … served as a co-captain and earned All-Southern Lakes honorable mention honors as a senior … was a defensive stopper at guard ... quarterback and wide receiver in football as a freshman and sophomore.

This and that: volunteer work includes working youth baseball and basketball camps ... member of Honor Roll … has been selected to play for the East team in the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches All-Star Games June 25-26 in Oshkosh.

I like playing baseball because: it is more of a mentally-oriented sport where your success is determined by how you deal with failure.
