UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater Receive NCAA Baseball Tournament Bids

MADISON, Wis.--For the third consecutive season, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater will participate in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.



UW-Whitewater (38-5) claimed an automatic bid into the 55-team field by winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) tournament title, while UW-Stevens Point (29-15) earned one of 15 available at-large invitations into the event.



This marks the seventh time in the last 10 seasons that the WIAC has placed at least two teams in the NCAA Division III Championship.



The Warhawks and Pointers will participate in a six-team, double-elimination regional hosted by UW-Whitewater May 19-22.  Additional teams in the Whitewater Regional include second-seeded University of St. Thomas (Minn.) (33-7), third-seeded College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) (38-6), fifth-seeded Carthage College (28-16) and sixth-seeded Aurora University (Ill.) (27-14).



UW-Whitewater is the top seed in the regional and appearing in the NCAA event for the 13th time in school history.  The Warhawks will face Aurora in their opening game at 10 a.m. on May 19.  UW-Whitewater owns an all-time mark of 36-24 in NCAA competition, including a national title in 2005 and third-place finishes in 2004 and 2008.



UW-Stevens Point is the fourth-seed in the regional and will make the program s 12th NCAA appearance.  The Pointers will meet St. Scholastica at 4 p.m. on May 19.  UW-Stevens Point has an all-time NCAA record of 28-25, including a third-place finish in 2007.



The regional winner will advance to the eight-team, double-elimination finals of the NCAA championship to be conducted at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis., May 28-June 1.
