"Dugout Chatter" is a behind the scenes look at your favorite prep baseball player.



Name: Scott Freiburger



School: Southwestern



Year: Senior

Favorite subject: Biology



Position: RHP/SS



Other sports: football, basketball



I got my start in sports: playing tee-ball in kindergarten, snow skiing when I was five years old, playing basketball in second grade and football in fifth grade.



Baseball highlights: three-time letterwinner and three-year starter at shortstop and pitcher … serving as a co-captain as a senior ... earned Southwest Wisconsin Activities League (SWAL) first-team all-conference honors at pitcher and was named team s Most Valuable Player as a junior … earned SWAL honorable mention honors as a sophomore .. played American Legion baseball for Zwingle Suns in Dubuque, Iowa.

 

2009 stats: hit .361 (26-for-72) with five doubles, one triple, two home runs, 10 walks, one stolen base, 18 runs scored and 19 RBI … pitching stats: 6-4 with 1.82 ERA (based on 7 innings) with 109 strikeouts and 35 walks in 61 2/3 innings pitched.

 

2009 team highlights: the Wildcats were second in the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League with a 10-4 record and finished 12-9 overall.



2010 update: through May 14, is batting .559 (33-for-59) with 12 doubles, 10 home runs, 38 runs scored and 30 RBI … also has 14 walks and six stolen bases … pitching stats: 7-1 with 1.63 ERA (based on 7 innings) with 98 strikeouts and 24 walks in 56 innings pitched … Southwestern is 14-4 overall and 11-1 in the SWAL.



Other sports honors: two-time letterwinner and two-year starter in football at quarterback and linebacker … served as a co-captain and earned SWAL second team honors at linebacker and on special teams as a senior … played forward in basketball on freshman team and JV team as a sophomore.



This and that: lives in Hazel Green … member of Student Council and Honor Roll … volunteer work includes coaching a third and fourth grade baseball team, member of St. Francis Church Twin Parish Council for our twin parish in Jamaica.



I like playing baseball because: it s competitive and relaxing. It s fun to be out there playing because when you re out there playing the game, it seems like nothing else matters at the time.

Dream gift: recreational boat for water skiing.



I like Southwestern High School because: it s small, everybody knows everybody and you feel at home. It s easy to get along with people.



On my iPod: everything, but Classic Rock is my favorite; Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers



I get my news: mostly TV and newspaper



Fantasy: play at least one time in the Major Leagues



My perfect day: play baseball and spend the rest of the day hunting



Hobbies: fishing, hunting, freestyle skiing, water skiing



Post-high school plans: attend Winona (Minn.) State on a baseball scholarship to study biology and pre-medicine.



Career goal: Orthopedic surgeon



Outlook on life: "If you re not first, you re last."



Did you know? My dad and I are trying to visit each Major League baseball stadium and have 11 left on the list.
