"Dugout Chatter" is a behind the scenes look at your favorite prep baseball player.



Name: Andy Davis



School: McDonell Central (Chippewa Falls)



Year: Senior



GPA: 3.5



Favorite subject: marketing



Position: RHP/OF



Other sports: football, swimming



I got my start in sports: swimming when I was four years old, playing tee-ball in kindergarten and flag football in first grade.



Baseball highlights: Andy is a four-time letterwinner and three-year starter as a pitcher and outfielder …  also played second base as a freshman … earned Cloverbelt Conference West first-team honors and all-district honors as a junior at pitcher.

 

2009 stats: batted .412 (35-for-85) with 27 runs scored, seven doubles, four triples, two home runs and 21 RBI with 20 walks in 27 games … pitching  stats: 7-3 record with a 1.48 earned run average in 12 games, including 10 starts and six complete games … recorded 86 strikeouts in 67 innings pitched.

 

2009 team highlights: McDonell Central lost to Marion 6-5 in the WIAA Division 4 state championship game … The Macks (13-3) finished second in the Cloverbelt Conference West were 22-5 overall.

 

2010 update: batting .441 (15-for-34) with 14 runs scored, one double, one triple, three home runs and 23 RBI with three walks in 10 games … pitching  stats: 4-0 record with a 0.33 earned run average in four games, including four starts … recorded 36 strikeouts and has allowed only earned run in 21 innings pitched.

 

Most memorable moment: Tossed first high school no-hitter on May 4, shutting down Thorp in a 9-0 Cloverbelt Conference West victory at Casper Park … faced one hitter over the minimum and struck out 15, throwing 67 of his 82 pitches for strikes.



Other sports honors: Davis was a three-time letterwinner in football, including a two-year starter at quarterback and starting safety on defense as a senior … A co-captain as a senior, he passed for 2,200 yards and 17 touchdowns to earn all-conference honorable mention and all-District honors … led the Macks to a 2009 WIAA Division 7 state runner-up finish.



This and that: member of Student Council for four years … member of Honor Roll for four years … teaches swimming lessons at local YMCA … Park and Rec. Dept. tee-ball coach … volunteer work also includes summer baseball camps.



I like playing baseball because: it s a great game.



Team bonding moments: When we play at home, we go out to eat at McDonald s after the game. We also go to movies together as a team



Baseball superstitions: Never walk on the foul line before or during the game. During every game I chew a certain kind of gum.

I like McDonell Central High School because: it s small so you get to know everyone and form a tight bond.

My perfect day: to win the WIAA Division 4 state championship game



Hobbies: golfing, playing video games, volleyball, wake boarding



Post-high school plans: attend Minnesota-Duluth to study athletic training or communications and possibly play baseball as a walk-on.



Career goal: Athletic trainer or sports broadcaster



Outlook on life: "It doesn t matter if you win or lose. It s how good you look."



Did you know? My high school has a co-op with Chippewa Falls in swimming so our program is in Division 1. But we re in Division 7 in football and Division in baseball.
